Funny, just had a chat with Martyn at VAGParts about this very subject.

Martyn is of the opinion that the Cast Aluminium units are better, as they are stiffer and also since the bush is larger it should last longer.

However, on the down side, they are £116 each, plus you must change the ball joints at the same time, which are another £35 each.

On top of that, the cast wishbones are more likely to snap if you have a bump (i.e. hit a kerb hard) whereas the pressed steel versions would bend, allowing you to potentially limp slowly home.

So which am I going for.....still dunno. I may stick with the pressed steel units and have them seam welded to increase their rigidity.

Hope this helps....it just confuses me.

    Cheers n

        Cast wishbones?

I have a set going spare plus ball joints, taken off my 90 sport. They will need bushes as the rear 2 are gone.

I'll put the part no.s on tonite.

        Interested?

If the wishbones looks like a big V it's the forged / cast ones.

See the example in this thread http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14363

the cast ones are of a one pieces construction
the pressed ones look like two pieces stuck together
                  if that helps

just been on powerflex site & they have:-

                        pff3-101 for steel
                        pff3.102 for alloy

i have the pressed stell ones not the cast ones so do i pick the steel?

Jamo please tell me many thanks

The other easy way to tell the difference is that you always have pressed steel ones on the rear. So if the fronts match the rear they are pressed steel, if they look completely different then they are cast aluminium.
