Bushes Issue with Cast & Alloy Wishbones 1991 S2

I have just ordered a Powerflex Bush Kit, we were having some isssues with the Wishbone Arms as mine are not Alloy and Not Pressed Steel, They are Cast Iron by the looks and Definately Not Alloy.
When the kit arrives will the bushes be the same size as the Cast Alloy Wishbones ?? or the Pressed Steel ones?? How common are the Cast Iron ones??

Anyone got any ideas on this one???

              Regards Audimaniac

I had both types on mine, pressed on rear, forged on front.

IMHO I would get the superflex bushes if you can since they are of better quality

Seems they are more common than I realised, as I just checked out what I thought to be a nice pair of cast aluminium ones bought from a Forum member and my magnet stuck fast ....making them cast iron

Looks like I will be seem welding my pressed steel ones after all.

                  Cheers n

I might be shot down on this one but i dont think there is such a thing as alloy control arms, any i have seen were steel. Honestly i dont think i would trust an alloy version if they do exist.

I changed over to the cast versions a while back and didnt notice that much difference to be honest. Installed a set of superflex bushings into them last week and they did make a big difference, steering is much more joined on, getting a lot more feedback through the steering.

On the downside there is a bit more road noise/vibration in the car, where i live all the roads in the housing estate are concrete sections with tar expansion joints between them, thats the only place where i noticed an obvious difference in comfort.

Looking at the thickness if my cast ones, I would tend to agree with you, as I just do not think that they would be strong enough.

Therefore, until a guru comes along with any more info, we have to assume that the aluminium part of the myth is "busted" and there is no such thing as a cast aluminium wishbone for the S2

OK, so going on that info, the cast items will be heavier, stiffer and more brittle in an impact, but have larger and therefore more durable bushes. If you cannot feel a huge difference in driving sensation, then maybe seem welding the lighter pressed steel wishbones IS the way forwards and just change the bushes slightly more often.

                      Cheers n

no way there is an alu version. i will put poliurethane bushes in my forged wishbones, and i hope i wont need to change them for a couple of years.
