    Anti Roll Bar

My typ85 90 suffers the same inherent understeer problems as many S2's. Unlike the S2, it has no rear ARB. I have been toying with the idea of adding one to my car to try and dial out some of it (Corey have you found that link? ).
However, a friend of mine who prepares some rally cars, told me that several Mitsubushi's (earlier models) actually take off the front ARB to reduce understeer.
THe obvious thing is to try this out, but has anyone else out there tried it? Would taking front ARB off have same effect as adding a rear one?
    Cheers.

When i first had my RS2 FARB fitted it greatly helped iron out some of the understeer. I went one further and stiffened up the back with a whilteline RARB and found this made the feel more neutral (lessened oversteer)

I found having my adjustable whiteline RARB on softest setting is best for ovecoming understeer, so removing your FARB, might have the opposite effect to what you want.

Although i usually have the RARB set on hardest setting for maximum outright flat cornering.

Have you tried stiffening up the front end yet with a thicker/stiffer ARB? That would be a good start for lessening the understeer.

Sort of, but with added, majorly added body roll!!

Go with the rear bar, having raced a Caterham with infinate roll bar options, stiffening the rear roll is similar to softening the front.
Usual rule of thumb with handling is its the ooposite end of the car causing the problem!! understeer=rear end is the cause.
I have thought about fittting one on my UR but my wife drives it everyday and women are not good at car control mid sideways!!
Someone fit one on a coupe quattro in Audi driver, did a how to in there....

Brian, Go for a drive with no front bar on with the rear on max and then tell me it understeers!!

Not sure how much difference this will make, but I have a fairly stiff coil-over package fitted. This should reduce roll. Just to re-iterate, my car was not fitted with rear ARB>

As i said, from my limited experience as a race/road driver fitting the stiffer RARB reduced the tendency for my car to oversteer together with the stiffer RS2 FARB fitted.

Not just my experience, a few other forum members described the same effect.

So no, im not gonna remove the FARB with the whiteline on hardest setting

leave that for next garage meet

The rear subframe is replaced with the late-build B3 subframe which has OEM sway bar mounts on it. This, along with a 4kq front bar (26mm), the type 85 control arms, and 90q 10v sway bar end links allowed it to fit up a 26mm rear sway bar using 100% OEM components and no welding required.
Do note that the rear tie rods must also be the late-build units as they are longer than the early-build tie rods and also allow for sway bar clearance.

The link is from MG but doesn't say anything other than the above plus the following images, this was done on a B3 coupe quattro so in principle Chris it should work on your type85

Your probably technically right on this, but not my experience or some others on here with the uprated RS2 and whitline ARB's

Found this tho (from american site - hence swaybars = ARB's - that proves your point.....

Antisway bars are torsion bars attached to the cars chassis and are linked to the right and left control arms. Antisway bars offer resistance to independent side to side wheel movement. This is how these bars limit sway in the turns and hence their name. While limiting sway, the antisway bars also cause weight transfer to the outside wheels. By altering the diameter of the antisway bars or installing them where there were none before adds yet another chassis tuning element. If you were to increase the size of the rear antisway bar on an SE-R you would be increasing the amount of weight transfer to the outside rear wheel, thus causing it to run a bigger slip angle. This would give you more oversteer.

That is indeed some pristine chasiss parts for sure

Would hardly be worth it with UK weatehr though unless the car was for occasional dry days only

That rear bar is way wrong!!

24mm!! just ridiculous! far far far too thick! result: undriveale oversteer!

                          I would say 17mm or 19mm max!

becarefull you could make your car too overtseary, testing required, (not on the road) track day, changing from a thin bar and going stiffer untill you have the desired balance.

I was going to use MG midget front bars, they come in many widths, offer up to the sub frame/wishbones nicely. tiny amount of welding for the mouting brackets.
