Aux belt query for power steering delete

Folks, currently in the process of converting my 2.6v6 (ABC Engine) to vacuum and removing bomb, power steering pump/tank/pipes. I've the electric astra pump ready to go but my issue is the auxilary belt without the power steering pump.

If I just run a shorter belt around the path shown in red, that will allow me to add tension with the tensioner, however the bottom part will come into contact with the bracket for the front mount bush.

Anyone any suggestions on the best way forward?

Hollow out the pump and use it as a freewheel?

Call me crazy but I really like the hydraulic brake setup. It’s smooth and linear and braking is easy to control. New VW’s I have driven feel like hitting a brick wall when I barely tickle the brake pedal.

You also have the ABS pump with the pipes coming from the sides? I think that means this car has servotronic?

Also you may not have enough "wrap around" the alternator for the belt not to slip especially as your new electric PS will put a higher load on the alternator.

Either you modify an idler pulley (like the Gates T38377-CP) to sit where the current PS pump is or as above you modify the existing pump to freewheel just pumping fluid to and from the reservoir to keep it lubricated.

My original plan was to do away with the reservoir in a bid to tidy up the bay a little. I'm now thinking it might be easier to just use the spare tdi power steering pump in the original location and keep reservoir & pipework in place.

Although i liked the idea of one less belt driven thing sapping power from the already low powered engine!!

You'd need to add a pulley in place of the pump and keep the route of the belt the same.

You would need to make up a bracket to mount a pulley in place of the pump.
