  • Lowered S2 Avant and S8 18" problems?

Has anybody got a lowered S2 avant and running 18x8 alloys or specifically S8

I'm noticing on bumps and underlays it sounds like the S8's are scraping?

    Running 225x40x18 with 15mm spacers on a 20-30mm drop.

Considering replacing them with RS2 springs all round.

Not having much luck with this S2 at the mo

I'm sure Ben (S2Avant) will be along shortly to clarify but I think he uses 10mm spacers with some special mods to the rear hubs.

Rims are ET48, They were fine on the Coupe.

I'm off to find Anders thread and see what size spacers he's using

I think the Avant has a wider rear track.

Figures! Wait to see what Ben says. Fronts rub as well though it's no just localised to the rear.

I do remember something about an issue with his in the brake porn thread but it was never specified.

Anders is running them on 15mm spacers

              Afternoon,

You've got to forget that terrible past of yours, Jamo. What works on mass produced hair dressers cars won't neccessarily work on a limited production high performance Avant

I use 15mm spacers on the front and 10mm spacers at the rear. It is very close to the rear arch with 15mm on the back.

My suspension is lowered 30mm-ish on H&R RS2 springs. I used to run RS2 dampers front and rear without any issues and now run with Bilstein dampers which have raised the back end by 10mm.

One things to note is that my suspension is very stiff so it would take some serious abuse to get my wheels to touch the arches.

              Ben

I think the problem is my car is too low, strange thing is it doesn't happen on the 17" with the same width tyres

I'm guessing option 1 is back to 17" or put it on standard springs.

What dampers and springs are on it at the moment? It could be that they are too soft for the car.

Although knowing you want a soft ride for your local roads you may find you can't have both. I have to live with the fact mine is virtually undrivable on rough roads but is fantastic on decent surfaces. It's all about compromise. I only use mine at weekends so comfort isn't high on the list.

The dampers on the car are Koni and I think the springs are cut down OEM springs.

I know Lee ran Koni dampers with OEM springs and 18" alloys so it's possible.

You may be able to get away with adjusting the konis alone to the stiffer setting and/or putting air con S2 avant(RS2) springs which should give the correct ride compromise.
Not having much luck with the new one at the moment. I should know having just replaced the drier and condensor and had the system refilled twice with no problems reported the bl**dy A/C gas has all gone again !!!!

If you take the S8 wheels off can I have first refusal on them?

                        Cheers

Sure, I still find it amazing I had them for sale on here for 3 months and no serious offers and I put them on my car when I decided to keep them there's PM's galore

                            Jamo,

I've got S8 Avus on 235/40 x 18 on 15mm spacers. The rear 15mm spacers push it right out and I've experienced rubbing, but only on the NS rear - at the rear of the arch.

I've got Koni sport at the back and Bilsteins at the front + H&R's - but the suspension is sh@gged at the moment due to too much towing and filling the boot with 250kg of sand n cement bags (Well it is an Avant... )

The suspension is getting replaced with exactly the same H&R's, but Koni all round (Bilsteins were too hard on the the fillings for a daily driver) and I'll be able to check the full compression behaviour of the wheel with the springs removed - I need full travel without compromise so if it needs to be 10mm spacers, it'll be 10mm spacers.

Keep the S8's on though, it's just a minor setback....

I've had Bilsteins and Koni's , Bilsteins = track day, Koni / OEM = everyday.

I may put the 17" back on for now depending on if an interested party buys them and wait until I can get OEM springs back on the car to handle the 18"

Still baffled by this as the 17 and 18 there's not that much difference. It must be tight on the Avant!
