    Vibration when turning left...

    Evenin' everyone !

I've got this really annoying humming sound and simultaneous vibration coming from the front left wheel area and this vibration can also be felt thru the steering wheel but all this happens ONLY WHEN I TURN SLIGHTLY LEFT when accelerating at the same time ONLY.

If I turn harder, it goes away...
If I stop turning, it goes away...
If I stop accelerating, it goes away...
If I floor the car, it goes away...

Car has new front wishbone bushes and the topmounts and lower balljoints were replaced about 12000km ago.

And to top it off, if I lap the Nürburgring flat out, I'll hardly ever notice it. Steering is precise and otherwise feels perfect. Car doesn't tramline at all...
Doug came for a lap with me and could not pinpoint what it was or where it was coming from... It's all very "strange" as he precisely put it.

It can' t be the wheel bearing and it can't be the engine mounts as those are new too.

    Thanx guyz !

have you tried putting it in reverse and full lock either way to see if it might be the driveshaft on its way out?

Would be a vibration/clicking noise you would get from worn CV joint

I've had vibration / ringing from the dusc / monoblocks on the front of the coupe when the wheel bearing was on its way out. Replaced the wheel bearings, re-seated the calliper and fitted some new pads and the problem went away. Others have had simillar problems. This only happened as certain speeds when turning slightly right in mine.

                  Thanx Andy.

I'm wondering if it could be the bearing but doesn't a knackered bearing "whine/vibrate" all the time ?

I'm also wondering if this could be a fault with the steering rack ?

I get a horrible nasty Vibration when I turn left or right but only when the cable is either moving VERY slowly or at standstill. My power steering leaks now and again and I'm guessing its a seal thats ******ed and the noise and vibration is air in the system.

Have you checked your left wheel isn't touching anything like a wheel arch at all.

I think this is something i have experienced. Its like a low frequency hum and slight vibration through the wheel. Only happened at speed when road swept to the left. Felt like the pads or the retaining pin on the monoblocks was rubbing on the disk. Gave the brakes some serious abuse and it stopped never returned! Think someone else on here mentioned similar symptoms, they took the monoblock off cleaned and coppaslipped and sorted it too. Try cleaning your brakes, it might be a build up of stuff on the pad slider pins keeping the pad closer to the disk than is comfortable.

I also had this problem recently on the Avant... thought it was a wheel bearing at first, but it was just too intermittent. I checked the inside of the discs and they quite 'rippled'... had to change pads, so changed discs as well, and haven't had the problem since (touch wood!).

Brakes ,had the same with the RS2. Check front brake hoses and/or refurb/replace front pads and/or discs.

BRAKES & BEARINGS for me. I had some corrosion on old little red calipers that pushed the pads onto the disk, that resulted in similar symptoms. Upgraded to new big reds, drilled disks & braided hoses, noise & vibration went away....... for a while.

A month later virtually the same noise & vibration came back, which ended up being a knackered wheel bearing. The play in the bearing allowed, in certain situations i.e turning in certain directions, the disk to rub against the break pads - rather than the pad pushing against the disk. New bearings solved it. No noise or vibration since.

I think it was essentially a wheel bearing issue that was exasperated by the caliper corrosion. Once replaced the new calipers, pads & disks helped to prevent the sideways play of the knackered bearing. Once everything had bedded in and worn down a bit it allowed the bearing to move around again.....perhaps .... or maybe it was just bad luck.
