    RS2 suspension opinions please

    Hi all,

Right, before the engine gets some tweaking i'm sorting the suspension and wheels. The Wheels are to be 18" cup 1's or 2's I expect.

What suspension do you recommend? I want to lower the car appropriately too. 40mm? 50mm? Koni's with H&R springs?

    Any advice/experience greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Can I have your standard springs when you do it? :mischeif:

Koni shocks / H&R or FK springs

I know that Phil2.0 has a set of springs that drop 40mm for sale at £120

          Hi Jamo,

          Thanks, that's what I thought. Are Phil's H&R springs?

Sorry but I'm going ot keep all standard items as she's in such great condition with the low miles, just in case I have to sell one day....

              Hi Dan,

Definitely recommend replacing all of your suspension bushes. Made a major improvement on my car to the overall 'feel' - can do it at the same time as replacing the suspension.

Having read many posts over the last year, there seems to be a trend that many who lower & of course stiffen their cars seem to tire of the rather harsh ride and change back to OEM springs.

Suggest bagging a ride in a car with lower/stiffer springs and check it out. Potentially, just uprating the dampers could be a good route.. Koni's or even Billi's with a fairly simple mod.

              Cheers,

Thanks Lloyd, I have to admit I like the smoothness of the ride compared to my 'fidgity' BoxsterS. As long as it's no worse? I might just see if I can blag a ride, good idea.

                So Bushes, what are recommended?

                Cheers

I've not tried poly bushes myself but was tempted....

In the end I went for OEM replacement. They are not as stiff as poly bushes, and may not last as long but they do not squeak and should be good for several thousand miles before need doing again.

I suppose they may also transfer less vibration into the cabin making for a percieved smoother ride?

Worth considering Corey's pro top mounts too. Have a look at his post under Quattronics.

Got to be poly bushes and Bilsteins.
Do a search for the bilstein info, I can supply the rears with modification done. You will get what i mean when you have had a read!

Sherv BTDT with an RS2. At that mileage I would not switch the springs or dampers at present. OEM was an excellent compromise.
If you are doing bushes then the fronts will probably be worth doing. Again go with OEM and buy and get fitted new front wishbones. Cheaper than bush replacement on labour unless you do them yourself.
Unless you are hardcore or tracking the car you do not gain a great deal with a 'healthy' standard suspension on UK roads.
Finally replace topmounts with OEM and get a proper 4 wheel alignment done.

                        rs2 suspension

Mine runs h&r springs [some lowering] and standard shocks , new bushes ,drop arms, ally top mounts, has been a good set up for our roads , took it to the isle of man last year, very little roll and not harsh at all, since then the shocks are going off so its back to choices again althouh my wishbone bushes are poly i can not honestly say the are any improvement over standard, i will be putting in some ally subframe bushes as well as new shocks, see what happens
good luck too many opinions and choices is a great thing

                            Well, thanks......

Let me just be clear. The car drives like it's just come off the forecourt, it's tight, responsive and smooth. I'm happy with the handling as is really, like the smoother ride compared to my figity porsche. But from a looks point of view i'd like to drop her a little with 18's cup 1's or 2's (undecided). Once I've upgraded the engine and got used to her it seems then would be a good idea to change bushes, shocks etc?

Perhaps some HR lowering springs to start with? How does this sound.
