    bonging sound!!

    Hi peep's,
Every time i wash my s2 I get a funny bonging sound coming from the front of the car! It sounds a bit like the ARB or the springs being twanged by something!!
Like i say it happens more if the car is wet from rain or just after it's ben washed, sometimes when i pull of in a straight line but more when i am turning out of a junction (left or right).
anyone had anything that sounds the same.

    Ta! Liam

Agree, topmounts shot. They are allowing the spring to slightly move in it's seats, then snaps back. Boing!

The noise is your springs moving on the seat pans. This is usually caused by knackered top mounts, but it is the spring making the noise. And the cure? Well that's obvious.....

          ......Don't wash your car

          Cheers n

Could be ARB drop links, had a bong noise on my last coupe and the ARB drop links were all seized up, used to make a spring type bong noise when i turned the wheels as the body of the drop link used to twist instead of the ball joint moving, then when they did you got the noise. Don't remember it getting worse when i washed it though, but then i didn't do that often!

Not saying it is that but worth a look when you are doing the top mounts cos eventually one of the joints failed and the whole thing was flapping around, not good!

My car made this bong noise, i found out whilst changing my top mounts that the inner slotted nut had worked loose by a fair bit and the spring was not secure

It's pretty common for the top mounts to work loose. This will have a similar effect to shot top mounts. But if you're lucky it can be cured by simply tightening them up correctly, using a special tool of course.

And I don't mean chasing the nuts around with a screwdriver. You know who you are.
