I have a pinging sound from the front springs when moving off from rest or occasionally over bumps . The noise seems to be from the springs moving in their seats - if I lift the front wing up the noise occurs . Any idea how I can stop this as it is rather annoying ...
Top mounts replaced about 3000mls ago and any susp joints that needed doing , plus all dampers . Noise is definately spring related - any other ideas ?
The noise is usually caused by the top mounts causing the springs to turn on the lower spring plate.
If the top mounts are new and OK, then it is likely that the spring was not seated properly when the top mounts were installed and the base of the spring is not resting against the stop. This can still make some noise even with new top mounts (well it did in my car until I rotated the spings back to the stops).
Just my two penneth

Worn DROP LINK . I had exact same noise on mine and it had begun to bug me last few weeks . Suspected top mounts as most others (year old) causing the springs to move on steering lock.
However, on investigating, found very excessive play in a lower ball joint of one drop link assy. this attachment to the RS2 FARB would give on full steering lock and cause a twangy clonk
Replaced both drop links (not too expensive) and easy to fit, and the noise has gone away, and car feels sooooo much together and precise again.
Thanks for your suggestions - got a chance to check things out today as I had the wheels swapped front to rear . Although the springs felt as is they were against the stop ( ie the tab on the spring seat base) when twisted , I tweeked them a bit and the noises have disappeared . I guess they may come back but for now the silence is wonderful .
