Suspension Mounts Question On 1991 S2

    Hi all
I have recently changed all my Suspension to Bilstein and when i did the job i changed all the suspension top mounts at the same time.

What i noticed on my car was that on the rear it has Blue Mounts and and the Front it has Green Standard Mounts????

What should it have??? Green all round?? Will it alter all the set up with it having mixed mounts on the car??

Can someone let me know please.

    Regards Audimaniac

It shouldnt make a difference having a mix. The reason the front were different is they are ment to be tougher than the standard top mounts. You can also change to a number of aftermarket top mounts. I havent used them so cant comment on what they are like.

From memory thats the standard setup, blues on the back, and black on the front, which got replaced by the greens on later models. You can interchange them however the blues dont seem to last as long, they also sit a bit about 10mm lower than the black/green mounts.

Yes- the blue originally came with the UR quattro - much lighter than the S2.

The S2 and V6 engined Coupes had the green mounts at the front.

As Greg says there are now a couple of sources for very heavy duty top mounts from aftermarket suppliers. I can't recall details - can someone post here for posterity.

If you can afford them - I recommend fitting a pair of the Mance Pro-Mounts which can be sourced/fitted by Corey at Quattronics. They're fit and forget with a lifetime warranty. Can't beat them AFAIK.

I'd stick with the same green/blue setup. On the aftermarkets dont bother with the alloy top mounts, mine were busted after a year. I have a set of the fancy ones from Corey to try next and see how they perform.

Fitting Blue Top Mounts All Round On S2

                Hi all
I am seriously now thinking of fitting Blue Mounts on all four corners as my S2 is sitting slightly higher at the front end which i personally think is what is making the car slightly twitchy sometimes as the front end is sat up higher allowing the Steering to float more.

My previous post stated that i had replaced all my old shocks with new Bilsteins, Fitted all new ball joints on all four corners and had the car tracked up and Camber checked, but at speed feels slightly light on the Front.

By fitting Blue Mounts on the Front aswell as the rear i am now thinking it will improve the cars Stability as it will be lowered also by 10mm the same as the rear.

                What are your thoughts????

                Regards Audimaniac

I used to have blues all round on my car. I quite often got asked, "Why does your car sit so low, especially at the back?"

I've got blues all round on mine and it's still a bit twitchy on the front but I think thats mainly the 18" wheels. For what they cost I'd put blues on the front too. Have you tried tweaking the pre-load on the steering rack, if the cars done a few miles it could benefit from a tiny adjustment.
Where did you get your tracking & camber done?
