    subframes - powder coating?

    Hi,

My front and rear subframe have quite a bit of surface rust on them and as its on 4 axle stands at the moment, was wondering how much it would cost to get them sorted out.

Anyone got any BTDT, approx costs or alternatives to making them as good as new again?

    Cheers
    David

hmmm, hadn't thought about that, how permanent is it though, just a case of wire brushing back to decent surface and prime/paint?

I've just finished painting my subframes today.
I wire brushed them first, and then cleaned them. I gave them a coat of Kurust first, to convert the remaining rust, then a couple of coats of Hammerite.

So further to the earlier answer:

If you can remove the subframes, get them shot-blasted then paint them with Hammerite. Powder coating is good but when it gets chipped water gets under it and rots the metal without you knowing as it's so thick and tough that it does not bubble. Hammerite is good and it's easy to touch up is it gets chipped or scraped.

Powdercoating the rear after a shot blast and zinc prime cost me £65, great job. Going to get the front done soon too.

Andy, Fatty isn't going to stand a chance in the next concours when ours are sorted

I got bored trying to remove the nearside tie rod last night (little f**£^£%£&" bolt siezed) and cleaned up one of the rear wheel wells, all the lines etc....Steve, you'll cry I'll post a pic later

Rustoleum spray paints worked for me on a pair of forged front arms.

I wouldn't worry he probably wouldn't be allowed to attend the concours event anyway
