Do you have a clunk when turning?

    Hi guys,

I asked about this noise when turning and the vibration on my UrS4 some time ago and I put it down to the driver side front wheelbearing that needs replacing. So i got the bearing yesterday from GSF. Wanted to have it fitted this week.. Drove out of Tesco's this afternoon and the cluck was quite loud out of the turn....
5 meters from my parking space at home, heard a noise and then I heard the tyre rubbing the back of the wheelarch... Just parked it and had a look at what happened.

The bottom balljoint from the drivers side track control arm completely popped out and destroyed itself..... so this lets the wheel move freely front and back.. not good......

Now I want to know... can just the balljoint be replaced or do I need to buy a whole new track control arm with balljoint? what should it cost me? is the partnumber 4A0407151?

    Please help

You have the correct part number just check which side you need against part number.
Approx 200 Euros from Stealers (£130 UK pounds)
German Sweedish French good in UK their part number 42225 is Left Hand 42226 is Right hand both £36.00 UK pounds.
    Try www.vagparts.com
Hope all is OK with the car.
Wheel bearing don't clunk! they just rumble. Botton ball joints (track control arm), steering tie rod ends and Universal joints (Steering UJ's) all do.

Hi, I've just had my rs2 in for new exhaust and springs and asked the guy to check for play in the near side wheel bearing as i sometimes get a whurring noise. When I pull out of my drive on full lock and accelerate it's almost like the wheel shifts a little and it makes a small clonk noise. I've been told it is play in the steering rack and is fine??!! There was no play in the bearing and when springs went on he noticed nothing wrong with the ball joints etc......?!

Thats exactly what I had... you wont find any play on the bearing either and it even passed MOT like that.. It must be cos the ARB and coil keeps it loaded and it will only "shift" like you say when driving and cornering... Your symptoms are EXACTLY the same but I'm not sure if the RS2 susp layout is the same... Have it checked out before your have trouble like I am having now, to find someone that can recover a car with collapsed front susp...

tricky one as Pembo said it could be something else other than ball joints (track control arm)???!!! Will phone and see if he can go out with me so I can show him what happens. Will let you know. Cheers for the help. I'm driving through Europe next week and don't want to get stranded of course.
