  • Converting Audi 90(B3) QUATTRO from 4 stud to 5 stud

    Hi all

I looked over posts and cant seem to find what i am looking for..........

    sorry if i missed post

    I got my 90 quattro. SPORT 10v (b3 f reg)...........
i got front and rear bearing carriers/hubs/driveshafts from an old S2
ALL bearings are to be replaced

would like to do this with out removeing bearing housing/strut(work has specail tool for this)

    MY question is

    1) are the bearings the same outer diameter for the 90 and S2....
so i remove 4 holed hub and bearing and press in 5 hole hub
    and new bearing?

    OR

    2) fit S2 bearing housing(if they the same fitment as 90 ) with new bearings

    Thankyou for your thoughts...ideas

    cheers

    john

      hi

      cheers for quick reply

am planning to use the drive shafts from the donor S2,would that make a difference?

i worried that the bearing housing is smaller on 90 than on S2 for the bearing fitment

      thoughts?

      cheers

        10v or 20v?

        10v = 75mm bearing, 20v = 82mm bearing (same as S2)

When I helped david (s2driveruk) put a 20v diff onto his s2 we had to change the cups on the diff that the driveshafts bolt to, they was not too bad to do but i'd presume you'd need to change these so that you can bolt the s2 one's on. IIRC its one 5 or 6 mm allen head bolt that holds the cups in the diff, not sure if that you can change the cv to make a hybrid s2 -> 20v driveshaft.

              bummer

i dont have replacement diff flanges,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,( nothing never seems to go to plan )

will put car on lift tomorrow and take rear diff inner cv joint diameter, then find S2 drive shafts and measure those

              cheers

I have read that before that all 20v cars had larger front bearings.

As Acidburn as said the CV joint flanges on the diff are larger too for S2's. And i think the drive shafts are thicker too. Not sure about the gearbox but 6speeds have different length front drive shafts too.

                Nothings ever simple eh

IIRC the s2 driveshafts are slightly thicker to handle the power better, i'm not sure about swapping the cv joints over on one end as that would be a good idea and easy solution if you can't get hold of the other parts. That would mean buying them or a diff and gearbox.... unless 034 sell them to bolt on with the 20v driveshafts which would be cheaper.
