    Hydraulic system flush

Whats best procedure for flushing hydraulic system ie what hose is best to dissconnect,
after searching variuos threads on this subject can't seem to find any info on actual flushing.
I did see a post mentioning flushing steering rack as well ,can this be done at same time.
Any help on this would be appriciated thanks

i need to do this too - after seeing the colour of my fluid when removing my broken bomb.... my god. it looked like bisto

drained as much as i could via the return hose from the top of the bomb, but guessing there must be at least another pint or so in the pump, lines and the rack. I want to give it a thorough flush to remove all the build up crud that is surely in there.

I cheated, had my garage do it.

You can cycle through the pump by hand though, just keep turning the pulley around.

I was thinking more of disconnecting A hyd hose somewhere running engine and keep topping fluid up.:mischeif:
Maybe this is not possible for thyn is the question of what hose ??

Make sure you manage to catch all the fluid though. That stuff satins the road for months. I had a leak in my pump > bomb hose and it lost almost a liter of fluid in 20 seconds. That was 3 months ago and the road outside my house is still covered in splutters.

pump is running high pressure of 6-7 bar AFAIK, so a disconnected hose with running engine might not be the best idea IMO

Washing up liquid will shift that mate - get a brush a scrub it good with some persil or something.. then wash it all away - done

no way. the council can do it if it bothers them. Its a good reminder to check your fluid levels AFAIC

This stuff is pressurised to 140bar guys - so do NOT open the high pressure pipes for drainage.

Best way to get rid of most of it is by dissing the low pressure hose at the bottom of the hydraulic reservoir. Tis nasty stuff alright so its wise to be green and gather it carefully.

Might need a couple of goes with the engine run up once or twice, making sure you go from lock to lock on the steering wheel to purge the system of old stuff.

doesn't really make it clear how to drain the system though.

Red stuff will be ATF, muppets seem to like putting in Audis , both my cars came with red stuff in!
Lasting damage will be all hoses, pump seals. It rots the rubber. changing to the green mineral oil will help but it carries on rotting the rubber even after changing the fluid a few times. Steering wrack seems to hold up better, not had a problem yet!

muppets stick to working on Fords please!
