Error 404 when you say pump seal do you mean the big + plug on top & bottom,
if so a bit of pee to change did mine couple of days ago with a large hammer & a cold chisel 2 new o-rings job done.
mind you thats nothing compared to what the future brings, new hoses,pump, servo, bomb. hey ho the joys of motoring eh.

yeah saw the plug & seal on VAG parts

I've already done the servo, just waiting for a dry day to finish swapping the bomb. then we'll see how the pump and hoses get on - and all cos some prink put the wrong fluid in at some point

Can recommend GSF for fluids local stealer £6.98pl GSF £5.30 with discount, I bought 4ltr ( only sell 1ltr bottles )to give a couple of flushes.
Think system holds abt 1.2ltr.
Also got 3ltr G12+ for £10 as mine has blue anti freeze in it, My other half was with me saw the pink G12+ and nearly creamed her knicks, so had to buy another 3ltr to do her vw polo to keep her happy ( needed doing anyhow ).

what fluid was it at GSF? i've got 2 ltrs of GOO4000 but your idea sounds good - i'll give it a good flush with the cheaper GSF stuff

GSF supply G002000 they also had G004000 but read somewhere on here to use the 2000!!

Flushed out old hyd fluid today,Syphoned old fluid out,Set up temp res, diss off bottom hose on res push pipe over outlet trail hose down through lower grill into container to catch old fluid, push temp res hose in hose from bottom of res tank start engine pour new fluid in temp res while glamorous assistant turns steering. Worked a treat flushed abt 2.5ltrs through.There was a bit of black gunk came out which i presume is hose/seal residue.
Would have posted more piccies of my antics in my man cave, but for some reason the attachment would not let me, still only a novice on here . Perhaps someone could shed some light

Here's one of tempory res which goes in to hose of res on car, found green garden hose fits snug as bug & had some old water hose about 17mm id fits strait on bottom of car res for return drain into suitable container.

And one of hose connections, quite simple really. need any more info please ask no brobs oh yes you might want to replace lid as it does back up very quickly and will make a mess.

i'll try your method later in the week when i've got more Goo2k to flush with... i've got the same black / brown disolved seal sludge in mine.
Just replaced the servo and bomb becasue of this, hopefully the pump and rack will survive with some TLC
