    hub swop

    hi

i used on my L reg 1.9 tdi avant, for the change

front S2 front struts and hubs/brakes......(used v6 drive shafts to my gearbox, cos my gearbox flanges different to S2 flanges)

rear i used solid A4 (pre 1998 ) rear discs
    calipers same...with same pads

with this setup done over 20 000miles no problems

for rear i been informed you can use Audi 100 rear disc and hub set up

front S2 set up can be bought from sellers here or breakers yards or EBAY

offhand i think your biggest headache will be front shafts because of inner cv joints not beening same on your box

    hope it helps
    john

thanks mate your a star wat i needed to hear, ill do that, do you think your tdi gearbox flanges would differ from a 2.0 petrol box for the v6 drive shaft??? as for the rear ill stick with the a4 rear disks just buy new ones and fits them...

      thanks

        hi Sunny

for some reason Audi decided to fit those tri joint shaft on the desiesal, and the inner joint is same size as v6

yoour problem, might be the flange on gearbox might be smaller than the S2 inner cv joint and bolts(8mm)on 2.0 are smaller on S2
( i think 10mm)....if it so might need flanges from another gearbox

on my F reg 90 quattro(10v) i converted and running S2 hubs and 3b wheels......but have a problem with my gearbox inner flanges like i described above...........waiting for finances better to pick up 20v gearbox...from fellow member here

on the rear discs get the NEWER type abs ring.....older tupe where thin plate ring with gaps.....newer type is a solid ring(depending what your excisting 4 bolt hubs have) they can be evenly /carefully knocked off through...the bolt holes from the hub

        hope this helps

        cheers
        john

Me too, but didn't quite catch it ?

Not quite as clear to me

I've looked through the suspension section of the forum for details on this conversion and there is only this thread and one other> if the query could be answered categorically this would then be the definitive thread to this query.

It is a very worthwhile conversion as it opens up loads of wheel options, including the 16 inch Avus rims from my S2!

I have a 93 2.0L 16v ACE Petrol FWD Avant with abs and want to migrate to 5 x 112 hubs from the standard 4 x 108 hubs.

I have second-hand front S2 hubs and brakes. Can I retain the car's existing brake caliper / brake carrier and use the standard S2 disc, or a V6 disc? The Avants existing brake calipers / carriers are in better condition than the breakers S2 ones.

Are the lengths of the S2, V6, and 2.0L drive-shafts all the same and what's the position as regards their respective diameters?

Does the splined diameter of inner and outer CVs differ between 90mm CVs and
            CVs?

Ideally what I wanted to do was get the five hole section of the S2 hubs pressed out and pressed into the existing car's "Hub", ( not sure of the correct name ), the bit that the brake carrier bolts along with the strut and the track rod end from the steering. This would allow to retain the existing hub and brakes?

While an A4 rear hub and disc might work, does it mess up the offset by much?

Are the correct bits that are needed from an Audi 100 or something else? Which bits are needed?

Does anyone have any part numbers from their family album and any diagrams from same?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

            Kind regards.

V6 and S2 brakes are the same.

You suggested just putting the hub of the s2 into your existing carrier. However there are two different sizes of bearings; v6 and 20vs used 82mm (s2s as well) while the other engines use a 78mm. Obviously you have the smaller type than that idea does not work. I also have to look to see if there are any other variables with that situation.

An Audi 100 on the c4 chassis is an easy option for the front as they are 5x112 stud

Unfortunately I can't answer any of your questions off the top of my head without doing some research but here's a photoshop to tease you with some 5x112 wheels. Was bored tonight.

you'll need top swap hubcarrier as well as the hubs themselves due to the difference in wheel bearings. You can check if your driveshafts are the same spline fitment by removing your driveshaft from your existing hub and test fitting.
I would suggest that driveshafts are all the same length, but cannot confirm this.
If your driveshaft splines fit the S2 hubs and the shafts are the same length, then S2 hubs and carriers will botl straight up.
As John used V6 driveshafts the splines are likely to be different due to the bearing differences - really all you need to know here is whether your gearbox flanges are the same as V6 flanges - if so then use S2 hubs & Carriers with V6 driveshafts and it should all work, unless i have overlooked something.

what engine codes are we talking about here? I will try and find out about the driveshaft flanges

I don't think the 4x108 hubs are such a bad thing... Unless there is a particular 'must have' wheel only available at 5x112 - I discovered from Pembo that there are lots of motorsport / lightweight spec wheels at 4x108 with various sizes and offset options for a wide variety of cars - but much less choice at 5x112.

Guess there must be various options of 4x108 hubs that work with the larger (82mm) bearings and driveshafts.

i want to do the 5 stud swap on my CQ to fit RS4 or RS6 wheels & 996 brakes so thats my excuse
Like you say Paul 4x108 is a very common fitment so seems a bit of a ballache to do the swap just for the sake of a set of rims

RS4 / RS6 wheels are dull as dish these days - I kinda regret doing the RS6 thing on mine - I mean they look great and accomodate massive brakes if required but loads of people have them on feckin Golfs, Passats & Seats these days.

I'd much prefer a set of 5-spoke lightweight Speedline / OZ / Compomotive wheels if I could afford them. Probably 8x17 as there is definitely less comfort on the road with low profile tyres on 18s.
