Strut nut removal problem - Help!!!

Doing, well i mean trying to do my topmounts today. run into a problem with the koni inserts, perhaps someone can help - i bloody hope so!!

The koni inserts have a 11mm hex instead of an allen socket to hold the strut while the top nut is removed. Despite mine rounding off straight away, i've managed to use my dremel and a 10mm socket to hammer on and grind the nut to fit a 10mm spanner. i've got the top nut almost all the way off but have run into a problem, which i'm sure is just me being a dumb ***

When the nut gets towards the top of the thread, you can't get any purchace on the hex that you need to hold the strut becasue the top nut needs to unscrew over the dambed hex

any BTDT on this with Koni adjustables? Really stuck right now

check and see if the piston ( shiney rod going into strut) is turning as you turn the nut, if so get hold of it under the wing with some vise grips, but only right at the top where the shocker never moves to. You won't need a very tight grip as the nut nearly off.
By the way, put some pressure on the suspension, ie jack up the wishbone to take the weight off the nut.

      Cheers Rob,

All sorted now, pressure on the strut helped. I also levered the piston right up to the top of the travel and wedged the snout of some long nosed pliers in the slotted nut underneath the cup again the bulkhead.
