Best place to purchase H&R springs

    Hi all,

I posted on here last Friday that I'm looking to lower my ABY coupe.

Can anyone shed some light on where the best place to get a set of HR springs?

29939-1 VA and 23339-1 HA is what I need.

I tried Motorsport Tuning and they have quoted me £310 plus VAT and Europerformance have quoted more or less the same for a set.

Is this about right and if so should I bite the bullet and buy or am I not looking i the right place to save myself a few bob?

Any advise would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

          Coupe.

Motorsport World are costing it at £364.25

Had her for just about a year and feel she deserves a few subtle changes.

Little did I know that the subtle changes will have a dramatic impact on the 'ol bank balance!

I'll get on the blower to the bank manager while I'm at it!

I got my H&R's for my ABY Coupe for £56.00 +VAT each, bought as cup kit singley tho. Springs for ABY Avant loads cheaper for some reason..

quattro corner were cheaper than that last time I spoke to them. You can get 2 pairs of fronts if they're substantially cheaper. Defo worth asking for price per axle as £360 is a hell of a lot of wedge.

Just rung Quattro Corner and they are going to get back to me regarding availability.

Much cheaper at around the £250 mark so both myself and the bank manager are breathing a collective sigh of releief!

Will let you know exact costs as and when I get them.

Again, I can not stress my gratitude enough to the forum!

                  Cheers all.

That was direct from MRC tail end of last year. Mind you they did fit them as well but thats what it showed up as on invoice. Certainly wouldnt have paid more, they're only lowering springs FFS. Prices what some people were asking are just ridiculas, its almost half way to a set of full adjustable coilovers..

As mentioned earlier, look at a set of 2 fronts as they should be cheaper and should also stop the rear sitting too low as some have experienced. The standard rear H&Rs are also variable rate springs whereas the fronts are constant rate.

Andy, is this a common setup for a road car? Fixed rate on front, variable on the rear?
Why have variable rates on the rear? Is this to compensate for changes in luggage loads for example?

I know you've been doing a little investigation in this subject, and this got me wondering what the pros and cons are.

I have no idea why H&R did this, Audi didn't do this originally from what I have seen on investigating the OEM springs.

Someone with more experience of this would be better placed to say, I approached my spring analysis from a scientific angle but was unable to get the OEM spring rates measured as I don't have access to that kind of equipment.

Varaible rate are used to increase the spring rate with deflection, thus not obeying Hookes law over the entire travel of the spring. I assume this is to give a more comfotable ride but when the spring is under load it becomes stiffer and so provides better body control. As mentioned, they would also allow for some load compensation but I just can't see why.

I have no idea why H&R mixed the springs but I personally would prefer to have a more balanced car with the same spring type front and rear. If you want stiffer rear springs then go for the RS2 H&R fronts as these are undoubtedly stiffer than the standard S2 H&Rs.
