Well after Pete helped put it in it's been fine since I think he brings bad luck with him

Other than that if everything has been replaced can't say I have any other ideas other than the shock retaining nut. Make sure the spring is seated correctly in the cups is my only other advice

Luckily for me and callam that was after a trip up to lakenheath which was about an hour each way and when it actually went I was in mine and he was only going slow when it went so did no damage to the car.

Had a 2ft stilson with 4ft cheater extension bar on mine with the strut in a vice and a mate holding the table down with the vice on it

I had a knock on mine when turning full lock, was due to the bottom balljoint not being seated correctly all the way in and subsquently coming out when i was driving

Where is it coming from? The front I presume?

Yeah I used a pair of stilsons thru the spring to do mine with the car jacked up enough for the spring but not enough for the wheel to turn at all.

More time consuming, fiddly bloody work to do that shoudln't need doing if people did the fecking job right the first fecking time!!!!! AAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

All I want to do is sell the fecking thing and start using my CQ
    Might just burn it TBH....

can you tell I've had enough of it yet?

Yes, but pretty straightforward once you done it a few times.
And if you have spring compressors.

I found the best way to tighten the damper cap was to grip it in a vise and use a breaker bar lodged between the strut body and the tie rod arm - either that or use the proper tool!

both door hinges are pretty secure as i've adjusted the hinges in the last couple of weeks mate

Shock issue sounds likely - is this a strut / spring off job?

Its probably not this but i had a similar issue on the passenger side and finally found it was a worn out door hinge, and large bump and the door jiggled on the hinge

Had exactly the same problem you are descibing - again was the cap securing the damper insert into the strut. Had worked its way loose. Drove me mad for 3 months before I finally found it!

Have you touched the shocks? I had a knocking on my 80 avant that turned out to be the cap that screws down onto the top of the strut not being tight enough, allowing the damper to move around inside the strut...

started a topic knocking sound with all new parts?!

knocking sound with all new parts?!

getting a knocking sound over bigger bumps and if i jerk the wheel side to side quickly.

Don't understand what the hell it can be as i have just replaced wishbones, ball joints, topmounts and track rods - and given the ARB links a thorough yanking too - the ARB ball joint boots are split, but there is no play in the joint..... yet.
Any ideas what this knocking is? I'm stumped
Working...
