    GSF front wishbone pt.no. 42224A/B

    Hi,
i got the S2 mot'd today, and it flew through everything............. apart from emissions on de-cat and a damaged front offside(drivers side) cast wishbone.

A bit annoyed i didnt spot this one, cos i only just fitted new bushes on the front a few weeks ago

    I therefore have 1 of 3 options.

    1) buy another front cast offside wishbone from somewhere/someone (£100+)
    2) buy a pressed assembly from G&S original/genuine (pt.no 42224 B, approx £50), or
    3) buy a pressed assembly from G&S copy part (pt.no 42224 A, approx £40).

Question is, is it ok to mix both cast and pressed wishbones on the same axle, and if so, is it worth paying the extra on getting the more OE part from G&S. I did look at them both and couldnt really spot a difference, but guess the bushes may not be the same quality/stiffness.

I Personally wouldn't mix, unless it was for MOT only then sort it later. Source / order a cast wishbone would be my choice.

I certainly would not go for a cheap wishbone from GSF. I know some of the stuff is good, but some can be a bit pants too...

On a fiesta, maybe, a 150mph car, no thanks...

    Cheers,

    Steve.

No as I had one of each on mine and it kept undoing the balljoint nuts on it.

Pm sal, he might have one spare, i've just sent mine off for powdercoating.

i bought a pair of front pressed wishbones for mine 18months ago from GSF and returned them after closer inspection as the welds didnt look great and the general finish was not oem...I was actually concerned that the two metal pieces were even aligned properly across the entire wishbone.

Then i won some new cast ones from vagparts on ebay so just got shot of the pressed ones

What was the emissions issue btw....?

Can you remember which ones you got from gsf, i.e. the copy, or the slightly dearer 'better' genuine ones

I ran the car de-cat as the cats had become noisey. It ran the following

          Fast idle
CO was 1.03% (limit 0.3% - had been 0.06% last year on noisy cats)
HC was 78ppm (limit 200ppm - last year was 12 ppm)
lamda was 1.011 (limit 0.970-1.030 - last year was 1.001)

          Natural idle
CO was 0.79% (limit 0.5% - last year was 0.01%)

I have a pair of pressed front wishbones you can have for £25 delivered. They'll need new bush's, I've got Powerflex in mine, £55 from Vagparts. If your not in a big rush I can get them shot blasted and powder coated. Let me know if your interested and I'll check the price, should be around £15 to £20.

Would love to see if longlife over your way can do the performance cat, but the twin pipes confused them last year (and the battery under the rear seat when they went to fit the welding suppressor)

maybe i need two cats as before

Not sure what options i have, but need to get it sorted asap.
