    Coilover shocks

Oh my god.... All I want is a set of coilover's for my project and it's like finding hen's teeth...

Kw can do them but I have to strip my old units to a bare minimum myself, send them to Germany and then wait 8 weeks for the privalage...

H&R Coilovers look ok but I can't actually get to talk to any one to order any.

Is there any other coilover set up that is fully adjustable that I could use???

If you decide to buy a KW, dont take the one from the Catalogue in V1 or V2, ask for the Race Version (@KW Race department). Bump and Rebound adjustable. Get some cores from Ebay and send it to KW. Its worth it.

I have this. Bought all pieces myself and assembled. Total cost was $400, without top mounts.

2bennet buy this same kit and assembles on their own. They charge you a bit extra for that.

I bought the kit from company called Ground Control. Thy only have a setup that will work on Coupes all around or sedans/avants on the front.

When you buy a kit, you should ask for sets of Audi 4000 quattro rear kits. Specify spring dimensions and rates that you want....easy.

I had the same problems when I started looking into suspension. Getting information is like pulling teeth, what's the point in having contact details if the people concerned can't be ****d to get back to you.

a_CQ, cheers for the heads up on 2bennet and ground control:-

No, just ask for 2 sets of 4000 quattro rears. 4KQ rear struts are the same diameter as your S2 or my Coupe Quattro typ89. Don't mention Coupe or S2 as they have a deal with 2Bennet, where 2B is exclusive dealer for those "kits". trust me, 1st time I mentioned my Coupe they wouldn't talk to me. I had to call back a week ro so later and just asked for 4KQ rears, supposedly having 2 cars or whatever...

What I got was 8" springs, 400 and 450lbs rate. Very stiff and about as much as standard sport shocks like Bilstein or Koni can handle before you need them revalved. Even those rates may be much. I would also suggest you get shorter springs for the front if going with such high rate. Pick 7" or even 6" tall. If softer rate, 8" should be fine.

                2Bennet uses 350-375# springs.

They will also ask you what shock you running in order to give you correct top perch. Whether a Bilstein, Koni or what have you.

As for top mounts, you can use pretty much whatever you choose. I think 034 track density mounts are good.

I don't know if you can get QRS alloy mounts any more, but if you do, I would like to try them myself.
                Hope that helps.

QRS top mounts are not very good.
Everyone I know that has had them has changed them for something else.
Mance Pro-mounts seem to be the best that money can buy.

Are S2 front struts are larger than standard CQ ones?

Yes and no. CQ has a swaged top end of the strut housing, for some reason. The bottom of CQ and S2 strut housing is the same. S2 uses larger diameter shock than the CQ, but lower diameter of the strut housing is the same and thus GC threaded sleeve works on both.

                        Coilovers

Spent a little time investigating making up kits. Spoke to a guy called Paul Drake who deals with Koni. They create a Model 2817 which comes with a removable sleeve that you can weld your own hub carriers onto. They are 3 way adjustable too. I thought great we are on to a winner but..... £2800 without springs

Spoke to Antoine at Ground Control he has requested I send him a load of pics of hubs and bodyshells that I am using so that he can give me a price and what I need.

See my Audi Sport quattro thread....

On from that most of the people I have spoke to today have told me they move the control arms on the front struts down so there is more adjustment on the coil. I have also asked the question if these can be rotated in slightly to allow a larger inset wheel just in case I decide to run 17 x 10 wheels in the future...

Type compbrake into google and you will find everything you need in there catalouge.
The coilover kits suite 2.25 or 2.5" springs . I got a 2.5" kit and it fits the UR or S2 strut leg perfectly.

So what should I ask for if I plan running on Koni and want a similar spring rate as the H&R kits for the Coupe.
                            And what length?

                            Good price on those kits!

Well you want the 2.5" coilover kit, which is designed to work with Konis also Bilstein, then you need to buy coil springs to suit your application. This might take a bit of experimentation. I'm using 8" - 400lbs front and 375lbs rear. But thats only for tarmac trackdays and is very hard, would be a nightmare on a bumpy, twisty 'B' road. Also the inserts are to long and if your on the road you would probably need a set of helper springs to keep everything under tension when you go light.
For fast road use, on a UR quattro, you can't beat koni's and HR springs. Bilsteins tend to be a bit harsh.
