    RS2 Weighbridge Results....

I was passing our local weighbridge this morning, had a few minutes spare so decided to get the car weighed up. Was always interested to know exactly what the total and split axle 'wet' weights were for the car.

The car had 3/4 tank of fuel, half full washer bottles and spare wheel. No luggage/people in the car on weighing.....

    Total: 1640 Kg

    Front Axle: 940 Kg
    Rear Axle: 700 Kg

So, add a driver and passenger and it's one seriously front end heavy car! Nothing we didn't already know but pleased to get some firm data in any case.

That's front heavy but really not too bad I would say, given the position of the engine in the package! I am intrigued to know how a coupe compares - the coupe has a shorter tail so it might be more biased to the front.

I'd always wqorked on 950kg on the front axle so pleased that I wasn't too far off! That's a mk.2 golf GTi on the front wheels

It's amazing that with all that weight these cars are so fast!

But the overall weight of the coupe is less, so that's most likely less on the rear and the same (ish) on the front? And five speed box is lighter than six speed, which conversely removes some weight off the front (proportionally more than off the rear I would say because of it's position).

Definitely taking as much off the front of my car as possible! Need to counteract fitment of bigger brakes anyway...

I had weights on my Coupe from an MOT test.... Darned if I can find them though. I maybe posted it on the forum before.

              Gotta love that search function

Weight on front axle was 1054kg
              Weight on rear was 715kg

Now OK both me and the tester were onboard and we've each had a few too many pies but that is shockingly heavy.

Reckon on 160kg mass of me and t'other block and guess half a tank of gas for this split in round numbers -

              Front 60%
              Rear 40%

Thats a 6-speed ABY Coupe with Aircon. Hefty enough

I thought MOT testers used maximum permissable axle weights??

I think the S2's weigh about 1500kg in total with one passenger???

In NI, the test rigs weigh the cars - I got figures from their display during brake tests.

I'll check what it is when i'm at my dads next because that weighs the axles as doing the brake tests

I'm about 80kg (slight podge on)... The tester had larger podge and more height (not difficult)... Gotta say 180kg between us approximately.

i knew the s2's were heavier than other coupes but i didn't realise the difference was so big. I guess when you take into account the turbo, intercooler, air con compressor/condensor, bigger stronger gearbox, it really adds up!! I seem to remember the series 2's weight something like 1250kg, the series 3 non s2's weight 1350kg (kerb weights).

The performance of these cars on both straight lines and wiggly bits is outstanding considering.....
