H&R springs with standard shocks (Avant)

Has anyone used this setup before?
    How did it handle?
I may be getting an RS2 rear ARB, would this help much with this combination?

Are the RS2 shocks much different from S2?
I am planning on getting the Neuspeed ARB when funds allow

Not sure of the difference between S2 and RS2 shocks, But the RS2 were cheaper than the S2 ones when I bought them . Does anybody know the advantages of the neuspeed ARB over the standard RS2 one?

I ditched my H&R's, put everythng back to standard and the car handles so much better. Keep it original...

i was after some a few years ago and all i could find was koni shocks and springs plus it always adviced to replace lowered springs with lowered shocks to stop the shocks bottoming out and giving a poor ride.

                  Dest,

I got H&Rs (lime green colour) front and rear on my S2Avant with stock S2 shocks front and rear - bought the car with this set up and also has standard ARBs. As the H&R springs give a 30mm lowering, I think that the standard shocks are compressed more at rest i.e. they have less working range and consequently will wear faster?

Mine are getting very soft and spongy at the front, so I can't really say that the handling is great right now although the springs feel pretty hard at the back. The car can ground easily on speed bumps so watch those cats if fitted and you drive over poor roads like 'ere in Zomerset . The look of the car is slightly more aggressive lowered:mischeif: .

I was thinking of reverting to OEM RS2 springs and shocks all round, plus new top mounts, if they are all a straight swap onto ABY Avant (non a/c). This would still give a firm ride with more clearance to ground. You will need to ask others about your 18" Avus wheels fouling the arches as well..........

Am interested to see how you get on and I'll let you know if my H&Rs are going spare.

Rough roads or speed bumps are not a problem here
I had a car before with lowering springs and standard shocks, yes, the ride wasnt perfect but I lived with it for over 2 years with no real problems.
Clearance wont be any worse than it would of been with the stock 16's, as the rolling radius hasnt changed

As for where I am getting them from, I know of someone who is selling a brand new set privately

NO problems running 30 mm lowered H&R springs (yellow ones. Ebay.de) together with original S2 shocks. That's also my setup, and I'm very satisfied. One shock is though dead now, so I'm trying a pair of Koni's soon.
