    S2 hub comparison pictures

I have bought some S2 hubs to convert my Coupe Quattro 20v to 5 stud hubs.

As I had the hubs out I thought I would post a picture to show you the differences.

The rear driveshaft splines are smaller and the bearing inner race is smaller as well.

The gold ones are the fronts which have been blasted and plated by the way.

I hope this is of interest.

Hi David, this is of definite interest to myself, this is a conversion I'd like to complete one day myself.

Okay so front and rear hubs differ, presumably you'll need S2 bearing races too. Is this all that is needed? Can this be done on a car with G54 calipers(to be upgraded at some point) front and rear using the existing caliper and carrier.

Any help and or part numbers greatly received.

      Happy Easter one and all!

        Hi,
Hope you don't mind me chiming in. The rear coupe hubs have the same bearing configuration as the S2. I just changed out the hubs on a coupe and the coupe uses the same bearing as the S2. The axles are smaller on the rears of the NA and the coupe than on the fronts.

No chime away by all means, do the fronts require new drive shafts and cv joints and wheel bearing housings to accomodate the hubs then?

This is something I have no proir experience of by the way.
Thanks for any more hints n' tips.

              Nuvo,
Requires nothing but the hubs themselves. I changed out the bearings, because you can destroy the bearing getting them. Sometimes when you pull the hub the outer bearing comes with it. depends on the amount of rust the backside of the hub has on with contact with the bearing. But I would replace the bearings anyway. Cheap insurance and trust me, you do not want to go through the hassle of pulling the axles, ball joint out of the hub carrier, and the hub just to put in a bearing again.

I am in the states, and I just ordered bearings and installed them. You can use a quality aftermarket bearing as long as it is made in Europe. I forget the brand names, but when I pulled the old bearings out, they were the same brands. Audi does not make there own, but buys them from supplies. You can get the same bearings aftermarket for a lot less.

Greg there seem to be a lot of Brazilian bearings at the cheaper spares places.

                  David,
If I remember rightly, the fronts were german and the rear spanish or vs.

Guys, thanks for the info so far on such a conversion. Very interesting indeed.
I'm wondering if the info provided upto now is relevent to 4 bolt quattro cars,
the coupe I have in mind is only fwd. I should have mentioned this in my earlier post.
That's why I raised the question on whether or not driveshafts and so on need to be replaced (I honestly hope not). Would this complicate things at all?

The fronts may well be the same, the rears need to be sourced from a FWD Audi 100 turbo. is that the 4000 in the USA? I think I have that correct, Ben S2Avant suggested that and may be able to offer further advice.

Hi David, the 100 is called the 4000, and the 200 is the 5000. I'll see if I can dig deeper on this one and post any useful finds.

                        Thanks Dave.

so can a hub from a 1990 audi 100 be used on a coupe just changing hub and bearings. if so i think this might be the cheapest way for stateside ppl.
