    custom suspension?

Anyone here in the UK specializing in this?
I have heard that they can make a PSS9 Bilstein suspension fit the RS2 custom made and not too far off the money you would pay to get an H&R coilover kit...

I spoke to a friend yesterday from Crete who has an RS2 (he was logging on some years ago here as well, his brother actually:Nick Psaltakis) and he has tried both H&R coilovers as well as FK Highsport. He has replaced the front struts to fit the FK and now he is pleased with them, but told me he wasnt pleased with the H&R coilover kit as he had to lower it pretty much in order to actually the coilovers to be effective.

He told me that he knows some shop that he would take the HRs there and hopefully could make a custom made kit to fit the RS2 with height adjustment.I asked him if they could build something that could still utilize the front struts, without modifing them,in order to have the opportunity to go back to the OEM setup anytime.

Only issues i feel worried about having only HR springs lowering the car,is if it needs towing,it would probably hit the ground when loaded up(as it bearely misses it now),and perhaps bumps, and bad roads, while on height adjusting coilovers, you would be able to change heights with your desire...

I will keep you posted on this!

There are plenty of kits out there. I think that if you're going to go for coilovers then you'll just have to get a spare set of struts and keep them with standard springs on, there's no point in my mind to do things by half measures as it'll cost you the same, if not more and you'll not get the same performance out of it. HnR and KW do kits and as you say I'm sure other companies will do you a kit custom built onto the struts but you will have to have them modified to go coilover as the springs are smaller diameter.

Unless you're talking about getting coilover rears to suit HnR front springs?

Might be worth a try, the pic on the website looks good

The other option is to get some height adjustable platforms off Demon Tweeks or Rallydesign and do a custom job yourself.

i have no idea how this can be done, but for me i would be just good with being able to make adjustable shocks on which the springs could be adjusted in height.we'll see

That's exactly how they make coilovers, use adjustable spring seats welded to the strut in place of the OE seat.

There must be a way to use a custom spring seat that screws onto the strut and acts as a cap for the damper insert also?

I'd prefer to have it welded so as not to put too much stress through what is a rather fine pitch thread but it's a neat solution if you want to undo it any time.

well - i've got a 10 ton press at home at the moment that has an M55 x 1.5 thread holding the ram onto the top plate so i think it'd probably be ok, but TBH its not hard to find another set of struts to mod for the platform

Had a talk and sent an email just now to Greece/Thessaloniki to a Bilstein specialist.I am told that he can do all sorts of things from custom make a PSS9 for your car to actually modify the OEM suspension to make it height adjustable!!
After talking to my friend he said that he wasnt really satisfied with the PSS9 for his A6 and he thought that it would be much better if he had gone the way of modifying the OEM suspension to height adjustability which would have been ideal since the rebound wouldnt have been so stiff with the yellow bilsteins as it is with the PSS9.

So i wrote to the shop if it is possible to modify the bilsteins/OEM struts to be able to use with either OEM springs or HR springs but have the ability to adjust the height by making screwable grooves and locking mounts so that the car's height can be adjusted accordnigly,And be able to not go to something as stiff as a coilover set,as it is not for track use but everyday use.
On the other hand as bilsteins are renewable, this would mean that any modification done to the shocks themselves,it wouldnt mean that you would have to do it on everynew set of shocks you got,but you would just service the ones you already have.

I will post any news as soon as i have an answer!

I came across an ad/article for this product in a magazine while getting alignment done this morning http://www.k-mac.com.au/Coil_Jackers_ad.htm

They seem to do what you're after. Enable height adjustment with stock springs and strut tubes. - The prices they have are in Australian Dollars.

Have you considered a set of KW race coilovers? You can spec everything to your precise requirements. This is not KW V1,2,3. Well worth calling KW to discuss.

IMHO, I think this is possibly the ultimate for RS2 being used on the road every day with the occasional track day/Nordschleife lap thrown in.

The trouble is the OEM style springs are too big, so would most likely foul the wheel/tyre if you lowered the spring perch.

im not sure excactly how it is going to be done.I havent talked to the shop at all.It is likely that they will use different springs anyway.Im only hoping they can use the Bilstein shocks and most of the Original eguipment for it,rather than making everything custom, cause that way it will be cheaper.

I will do that in the end,and i also mention that i need an easy way to manipulate the system without losing a finger in the process.

The australian shop seems i clever idea, but i dont think it is possible to do it.I would have to send the suspention to them,so they can take their measurements and then back here...lots of costs

KW unfortunatelly although i know you can ask them to get what you want,it is very expensive,as well as stiff.Their already kit they offer is expensive enough, imagine if i wanted something completelly custom!

i may attempt a phone though...

Another way to go might be to opt for the Mance CCK front setup with his pro mounts. Then get a rear set made up to match. I think Mance uses Bilstein in his CCK.
