    Boiling PAS fluid?

Recently done a trackday and after 3-4 laps the power steering stopped working. parked up, let her cool down for a bit, maybe 45 mins. fired up and perfect steering again???

I thought the fluid maybe boiling and the pump cavitating.

Looking at the hydraulic system cooler it's pretty p**s poor for track use.

Any ideas, experiences/upgrades, i'm thinking a small rad. if it is boiling.

Not experienced this myself but I have rebuilt the system a few times. Nice new fluid run through the system a few times to really clean it out will help. THe accordion style hose that goes in front of the rad is what does the cooling, if this is not in place then that might not help your cause. If the fluid is old and fullo water then the BP will change a lot, thinking about brake fluid. Best to replace it all and get it all nice and working and see what happens, 3-4 laps isn't that much, I'm sura you could replicate that on a quiet road

go grab a turkey baster, suction off a sample of the current fluid and compare colour and thickness against new mineral oil. Soon tell what state its in just by looking and comparing

I'd agree with Andy, flush it, fill with new and I would imagine it'll be absolutely fine. No issues with mine on track yesterday and fluid is 1 yr old...

        Good luck

pump flushed fresh fluid put in with new pump about a week ago. After the track session fluid is black and defo. needs changing now.

can that hose really be effective? I mean for road use sure but just doesn't seem to follow audi's trend for over engineering.

I suppose if i'm the only one having probs. then i need to alter my driving style a bit. :mischeif:
          driving an s2 like it's a mk2 golf can take it's toll I guess

i think the colour would suggest there is a seal problem somewhere rather than your driving style ragging it too much The oil should be nice and thin, green and see through for a long time if the system is in good condition...
