    Bad steering vibration..

After having my car aligned a few weeks back, I thought this would be solved..my steering develops a bad vibration @ 60mph-ish...it is fine below and it is ok above..
the alignment guy claimed it will be wheel balancing...
    can this be right??....
as he checked the nearest wheel to him and it was fine...

having had the front wishbone bushes changed about a month back...all control rods changed..top mounts done in march...

    any ideas?.....

wheel balance all 4 wheels.mine did that when only the fronts were done, but apparently since we drive quattros all 4 should be balanced

that might explain it...one of my 4 wheels took a lot to get a half decent balance...as the rim in question is on the back, is it possible for the vibration to transfer through the chassis and into my steering....

i dont know, you lost me there... but in my car i had to balance the fronts twice(previous set of wheels) until i asked them to balance the rears as well and then all vibration was gone.

one of the rears has a bit of a buckle..it balanced up ok but it still has a bit of a 'wobble', so that might explain it..
I just thought as it was a steering issue it had to have come from the front end...

If ones buckled it mgiht not even be a balance issue, it might be out of round!!

oh no....it appears to be a run-out issue rather than a roundness issue...(I hope )

Regardless of quattro or not, the only wheel that doesn't need to be balanced is the spare

All 4 wheels turn round, hence they all need to be balanced.

Did your tyre fitter not balance ALL wheels? Thats quite bad if he didn't.

I'm also experiencing kind of this too on my UrS6.
the steering was vibrating at 0-60mph.either on cruising or Accelerating.at the higher speed it seems the car will be slightly shaking accompanied with steering vibrated.
I have replaced the tie rods assembly, control arms, wheel bering.Currently,I have 2B camber plates on my car now.My steering damper is still work fine. I only have one stuff left.the inner CV joints. But I haven't tried it yet.the symptoms has been coming out both 2 sets of my rims.:-(Anyone been there and done that.I'm not going to dump my $$$ for the CV joint for a trial.

Try to rebalance all 4 again. I had once a problem with an RS4 from 99 with a verry bad vibration between 60 and 90 km/hour.... Put the wheels on the balance machine and was ok....but...when we removed the wheel from the machine shaft and put'it down....it was moving front and back on a straight surface.... We found out that the owner has repainted the rims but without removing complete the tire.
In 1 wheel was ~ 1 liter off water. Belived or not...5 diferent balancing machines from that shop told us that the wheel is ok...
                            Check again the wheels balance.
                            All the best!

A vibration at a set speed is almost definately a wheel not balanced. Had this happen to me countless times, either due to a weight falling off the wheel or idiotic pre-evolution tyre fitters. This applies to all wheels too, not just the fronts.
