Spring Modification

I have inquired about modifying some S2 avant springs i have in order to make them a bit lower.I contacted a shop in Sheffield that told me that with about 100GBP they can heat treat the springs to make them to my liking(15mm lower than OEM) and still keep the OEM feel and rates,at least not as stiff as the HRs.In that price they add the repaint as well.

Would you do that?Apparently there are no risks as far as spring health and strength with this special treatment...

your thoughts?

Anyway, sounds interesting, be good to get the spring rates measured so you know what you're dealing with...

OE S2 springs are quite soft for the weight, you'll not want to lower them too much as it'll bottom out easily.

Hi there are you trying to make lower springs for your 80 avant as you can get lower standard one's or i can supply them i.e standard 80 SE springs £70 quid also slightly lower than SE ones for the same i can get the lengths and let you know

Again, you need to know spring rates before and after to have springs made that'll work as well...

Thanks Baltiboy,but inspite of my nickname, my springs are the S2/RS2 ones so there are no other OEM lower ones for the 80 Avant.

i just sent an email asking about possibility to measure the spring rates and possibly altering the stiffness,for the scenario of bottoming out.Thanks for the input!

Yeah, they're fine on the road but on track it's like a big wobbly barge. I'm yet to experience the HnR stiffness. Will have to get them fitted sometime... I'm sure my dentist will have some fillings to replace.
