a few questions about the bilsteins B6/B8

i am about to buy a set, but the front B8 (for suspension lower than 60mm), are not in the catalog. are the b6 the only option then?

there are also 2 damper measures: 50mm and 55mm. Where should look for that measure? (on the strut?)

yes i think B6 are the only option from memory and the 50/55mm is the diameter of the shock insert. this was different on early/late S2's

    cheers

then there must be some ring or something in the monroe package to fill the gap and hold the insert in place..
the strut is def. 50/55mm in diameter..

There is no 55mm B8 front shock, the online catalogue is incorrect and you can phone Bilstein to confirm if you wish.

The difference is for the CQ which is 50 or 52 on the front. The S2 front on 3B and ABY is 55

We have to clear a few things. What is a strut? Is it the shock absorber insert?

If this thing has to be 50 or 55, it means there are no bilsteins i can use on my car? In the bilstein catalog there are no numbers below 50 for any of the B4 audis. Not even as an oem replacement part...

Bilstein 55mm for the S2 front are F4-PE3-3086-H0 aka PE3-3086.
These are inserts which go into the strut.

Yes, the diameter of the strut tube which bolts to the wheel bearing housing (So it's called in the family album).

                        Yes!

A lot of rust there, you will have some struggle with releasing the cap which holds the insert in the strut tube... If you have no luck with e big pipe wrench or stillson wrench - I made a cut into the cap nut, very carefully not to touch the thread, some millimeters, and then some hits with hammer an chisel in an angle of 45 in the direction of turn... Lots of fun..

                            Spares, very good!
You will find the tool on the bay, its called VAG 2069A.
Other useful tools are VAG 3078 and VW 524 for the slotted nut.
