    Special wheel bearings?

I've finally traced an irritating whirring noise and I'm pretty sure its the N/S/R wheel bearing. Does anyone know if these are special items, specifically for the S2? If so, where can I get one from?

    Thanks,

Do a search - its a common SKF part... I'm sure Pete can source them easy - but they should be easy from any motor factor if somewhere local is faster for you.

Suggest this is one item you want to get from the dealer. From recollection, buying mine that way wasn't expensive, you get a quality item, it'll fit given the variety of hubs used and a replacement CV bolt is included in the kit. It's but nothing to the hassle of getting the old bearing pressed out and the new one pressed in!

I had a irritating whirring noise coming from the car, turned out to be the backing plate touching the brake disc of the front passenger wheel, sounded like a duff wheel bearing too. May be worth a check before you go ordering stuff.

The bearing swap is easy if you have access to a press - or know someone that does. Johne makes a good point about ordering the bearing as kit from Audi cos you get all the bolts needed to be replaced along the way - though be careful as I've had them more than once with wrong nut for the track-rod end !

Thank you for your replies, sorry its taken me a while to get back to everyone. I haven't had a chance to get underneath the car to have a look, but my Dad has. He says there is something that looks quite close to the tyre but cant see what it is. The noise goes away when the car turns to the left, even slightly.

IS it the track rod end per chance? What wheels and tyres do you have on (from the look of the pic 18" RS4's), I had a slight problem in the Coupe I used to have, used to have only 3mm clearance on the ball joint of the track rod but was just enough not to cause a problem.

Yes, they are 18" RS4's, the noise sounds like its coming from the rear of the car, not the front. I thought the drop link bar that goes across the top of the wheel might have been catching but I can get my finger between the gap, so I'm not sure.
