    Quick help with rear tie rods, please.

    I need some help with my new tie rods VS the old ones.

    You can see in the picture below how the new ones differ from the old ones.
    Which one is left and which is right?
    Or have I got the wrong parts?

    Thanks for any help, I would like to mount the rear end of the car tonight!

        Yes it has, perhaps I got the wrong item.
        I was just wondering if the shorter shank item belonged to a specific side, but that would imply that one of the old ones is wrong.

        Anyways, I think I'm going to try to mount it as is..

          Probably shouldn't complain as they are only 89€ a pair new..
          Could order one more or long shank model perhaps.

            Turns out the short one wont work after all, it does not allow enough movement.

            Will be making 1 out of 2 (old and new), downside is I get an old bushing on the subframe side

              Something's definitely not right there. Both sides use the same part AFAIK, so they should be the same length.

                    Well yes, it was a bit of a sloppy order from my side.
                    I looked in Family album and compared to the website and it stated both part numbers, there's a chassis number breaking point somewhere.
                    It stated it was a Left + Right kit so I just went along with it should have known better

                    @Error404:
                    I ordered from www.autoteile.cn , a German shop.
                    I don't think you will find them on the website but If you drop him an e-mail ( au-tel@t-online.de ) he will give you a price, you can also give him OEM part numbers and he will find a few different alternatives (he can also get OEM stuff directly from VAG in Germany).

                    And yes, you can write in English but keep it simple as he has not got an Masters degree in English grammar

                          Those short shank ones are for the rear subframe WITHOUT the anti-roll bar. I had those in my 90q. With the ARB, the mounting point for the tie rods is farther back, so the shank must be longer. I am currently driving with the short shank ones though, they had long enough threaded part to allow the correct toe adjustment.

                            Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but i'm looking at the part numbers for the rear tie rod, there are two;

                            b 893 501 499 A

                            b 893 501 499 B

                            Can somebody confirm that the one I need for WITH RARB is the later one? It's for a 7A CQ

                              if you look at a 1996 model coupe quattro it only gives the 893 501 499 B option, so I guess that must be it
