    power steering pump

i have just bought a 91 S2, shortly after driving it home a strange noise developed, i think it may be the power steering pump. does anyone know if this is a common fault?

Give up now and save your money....

      Welcome to the forum...

check the fluid level and if your belts are tight first.

@ Rocketdog just try nipping the belt up a little, you will most likely find that will do the trick.

you need to make sure. that you have the right fluid in the pump. G004000 Dark green in colour. use anything else and you will have problems.

                cheers paul

My pump has a tappping/cavitating noice every morning and I have changed my pump. The problem for me is that the pump sucks air from somewhere and I have to turn the steering wheel a couple of times before I start driving. When I do this I can clearly see a lot of air bubbles in the tank and the noice goes away. I have found a small leakage in a hose but I haven't changed it yet.

solved the power steering pump problem, 1 of the mounting bolt was loose and it was rubbing on the pully. cant believe i didnt see it!
