Suspend a strong (neodomidum sp?) magnet in your reservoir overnight and let us know what you find.

Nobody is talking about using power steering fluid; this discussion is about using M1 ATF as a replacement for or in addition to 11s.

The past 2 CQ's I have owned both had leaks and over 200k miles. I was not the urowner so I cannot know if they always has 11s but they had it when delivered and when leaking.

I am not sure how attempting to improve on a system that is know for breaking is a false economy. I will try and postpone a full R&R of my system for as long as I can but when I do rebuild it I will at least be using a reservoir with a filter and magnets.

Nobody is saying that running on Audi spec green stuff will prevent leaks... Any hydraulic system will suffer that eventually with wear and tear.

I personally don't think its worth the hassle trying this Mobil 1 stuff. The Audi stuff is cheap and widely available. If it ain't broke don't fix it....

        It is broke.

M1 ATF is cheaper, more widely available, and runs cooler. Unless you are in a high or low lat you do not benefit from 11s's great cold performance as much as you would from M1 ATF's ability to work well in the heat. Heat and ferrous particles break hydraulic systems.

Time will tell but I do not see a reason why M1 would not be ok.

          I run the broke stuff

And to be honest i have never had issues with steering rack or pump that was related to the Audi ATF (apart from the wrong kind been put in)...Might be a different case in a warmer climate as you mentioned but here in the UK getting a day above 20oC is a luxury sometimes

I have a feeling that is the difference; it was 19º C + today in Denver. 37ºC is normal for at least a few days in the summer.

Pentosin 11S is not cheap here in the States!

Mobil1 ATF is much cheaper than Pentosin. I think Pentosin costs twice what Mobil1 does here. It is by no way cheaper. Here in the States it's getting out that Pentosin is not what it is made out to be.
