this looks very interesting. are these bushes in need of any material to fit them in the rods to be more secured,or is it only a quick fit in?

Looks great Rob - excellent work sir

This I hope might be a solution to the coupe rear tie rod inner ends (albeit a differen size bearing) they are the same type of rubber bush with steel sleeve in them

hum, that seems like a very good way doing it, where did you buy the bearing from and what was the specification, or do you not wish disclose that so can sell it

I am trying to find a supplier that can match the external and internal sizes.
My prototype had to be machined to fit the external size. Having to that makes it more expensive, I should know more tomorrow...

so you had to bore out the rod end to get an off the shelf bearing to fit mate?

I wondered about another solution using the original steel sleeve and getting some nylon inserts machined to replace the rubber then pressing the steel sleeve back in...

i considered doing that using some poly mini engine stabiles, they were wrong size, but also the tube from the original bush had a rough texture on the outside

as for bearing be best get bearing fit straight in, i have a bearing catalogue here, being the exciting person that i am so post the spec ill take a look, 1 for the book and 2 see if get a match

No, the external is the fit into the steering arm, the internal is the 10mm for the bolt. Machined the outer part of the joint, the inner was correct!
The steering arm is 23mm exactly. The new joint has to be 23.02 to get an interferance fit. That is the difficult part....

Think like this; the joint has to be able to rotate and articulate, thats why a rubber bush was used. Stiffening up the side to side movement is good like your nylon idea but no good for easy rotation (as the suspension moves up and down) don't want to stiffen that part as it cutts down the feel.

Could you not use a bearing with an outside diameter of 23.00 and Loctite it in using Loctite bearing adhesive? I assume we'll be putting a large washers on top to ensure that even if the bearing comes loose, the tie rod can't slip off the rack!

What do the suspension gurus think of this approach vs whats available from 034 ?

This place is great BTW !
This is definately a better option over the 034 version. 034 ones are on the limit of travel as Rob mentions. I had to use spacers on mine to get it to work properly but it amounts to the same thing. This is a no hassle approach. Wish you'd done this 4 months ago

If you could do the same for the rear then i'd certainly get a set from you.

If you look how these fit you'll see even if it failed it cannot fall off as its sat between two parts and has a 10mm bolt through the middle!

I will be loctiting it in. but not relying on loctite holding the side to side forces everytime you move the steering wheel. Any movement results in a VERY annoying knocking!

I was just thinking the same actually - a big durty washer would be highly advisable for safety anyway wouldn't it ?
