  • Using spacers on rear subframe

Has any one fitted spacers on the rear subframe of a coupe to increase the space for an exhaust to go over it?

If so what size spacer was used to fit a 3" exhaust over the rear subframe to stop it rattling?

Im having a new exhaust made up very soon and want to make sure there is enough space there for all the pipework.

    Cheers.

Hiya Bo, from all my readings i dont recall anyone spacing the subframe and think a 3" does fit, just, but its a lot of hassle, from what i remember reading anyway....

More to the point, wont spacing affect the geometry and ride height though? (all be it a small amount, granted)

I know it fits but its a pita like you said. You can get away with using some spacing and i just wanna know how much.

It wont effect the ride height just the camber.

Oh right, thats interesting then, wonder why the prefered route for most at the mo is to go 2.75" over the axle then?

Doesnt really help with your question though, sorry

ADU_S2 car has 3" perfectly over the axle. MIJ Performance did it.

I thought the actually issue was the pipework hitting the axle?

Milltek is 2.75" and is tight but doable, 2.5" is easy. So to go 3" you're looking at spacing between 0.25" and 0.5" so 6.35mm to 12.7mm. With this in mind some 10mm spacers would seem to work. This will make the camber problems of a lowered car worse though.

I had 3" over the rear on the old coupe. With powerflex exhaust mounts it was solid as a rock and never had any problems
No spacers either. Very tight but def doable.

do not space down the subframe. have you thought about what happens with our control arms? you will get an really bad angle

You really dont need to space it... I have built my own exhaust. It fits fine

You just have to bend it round the diff output flange and CV joint. Bo asked what sort of spacer he could use and so I answered. It would make things easier but isn't necessary as has been proved.

The only bad thing i think will be by spacing the subframe..is the propshaft center bearing spaced to be straight again... the rest... with 20mm will not afect too much the angle from the wishbone...
