    Strut Insert Tool,

    Hi guys,

Im looking for the tool to get the locking nuts from the top of the strut housing off, so I can remove the shock absorbers.

    Looks like this
    VAG tool number is 2096/a.

I would prefer to loan one from somebody if possible, cant find anywhere that sells them.

    Cheers,
    Kieron.

Stilsons work a treat. Especially with a bit of scaffold bar stuck on the end.

Only trub is you can't torque it up with that method other than to the tried and tested 'TAF' rallyman standard.

I did try to buy one of these from HAZET recently but its

          wait for it

            Thought it might be NLA.

Havent got a big enough set of proper stillsons, but had a go with my mucho biggo pipe grips.

When that fail I tried a chisel but that just started removing chunks, so I left it at that.

Another vote for stilsons and scaffold bar. For really rusty seized on caps you will need a butane torch to heat it up, works every time.

Anyone got a pic of the tool? Is it basically some hex bar with a hole through the middle so you can run a phook-off massive spanner on it?

the 2069a is one of the most usefull tools i have ever come across. On the urS4/100/V8/A6 etc you can change the front shockers with the car on the ground with the wheel still on.Shame they didn't use the same design on the 80/coupe.

Bought some stillsons today and dominated the cap off with a bit of tube on the end.

A vice and a mallet to hit the projecting arm was all I used....cost = nothing!

The one in the pic came from Samstag Sales.

The Hazet one is NLA but you can still get the Matra version
