Coilovers...without sending off your own ones?

Just refreshing my RS2 underneath, running on H&R springs and Koni Sport shocks which have seen better days...thinking of switching to coil overs, but does anyone do a kit where they DON'T require you to send yours off...can't have the car unmoveable (can't I just get a ready to fit set off the shelf)?

Also is it worth going the 034 route and upgrading the drivetrain/engine mounts also, or just stick to OEM bushes (I have poly in the suspension)...car is not a daily driver but just want something a little tighter without losing all of the comfort factor

when i got my KW V2s i just paid a core charge and sent mine away after i fitted the new ones, was around £500 is memory serves, well worth it. engine mounts transfer a lot of vibration but if its not a daily then it doesnt matter. when i say a lot i mean compared to stock...its still not much rly, just means you can rly feel the engine...i cant wait to get mine back on the road now i have the track density mounts all round!!

Try Darren at G-werks. He deals with kw's so if they don't do a set he probly can get some made.
Just some finishing touches to do now

KW V2's are not the best get either KW V1's or V3, the V2's were withdrawn as the front shocks weren't up to it as they were the same spec as a Golf MK2 according to a very well informed source

which could explain why a friend of mine had one of them broken after a few months of use in his RS2

Hmmmm! Not good to hear this! Is possible to change the insert from an V2 coilover strut with another shock?
What is the problem actualy with them? damping force or mechanical brakedown?
I am pretty scared now because the roads in Romania are not soo good.
            Regards!

The force exerted on the shock is to do with spring stiffness and weight, if they are failing on an RS2 then thats one thing. you have a series 2 gt right?? thats less than 2 thirds the weight so i dont think you have anything to worry about, my v2s are on my cq20v and have a year of total beating on them. end of the day my mk2 golf weighted 1100kg according to the manual, my cq weighs 1350 according to the manual and that has better weight distribution so i'm guessing there is not much difference over the front wheels, your car probably even less. i rly wouldn't worry about it but i would deffinately thing twice about v2s if i had an S2.
in answer to your other question, yes you can change them out, i asked about turning mine into v3s with higher rating springs at the front and they said no problem.

back to the topic tho i would assume all manufacturers would offer exchange parts with a core charge, no one wants to be left with no car for 2 weeks! if kw arent your thing i hear good things about H&R, there all stainless aswell i believe where as the kws are only galvanised.
