    Steering wheel fitment issues

When I purchased my car I was given a (I Guess) sport model 3 spoke steering wheel as seen below :

My 1995 S2 avant runs the 4 spoke wheel and last time I tried to swap them over I found a few issues so stuck with the 4 spoke.

Do you need a different cowling (sp) to use this wheel on my model S2 ? I remember that the horn was one of the things that would never work had I of just fitted the wheel straight on so I knew something else was needed... just not sure what exactly

Any help would be appreciated as I'm tired of looking at that dull 4 spoke

I need to do exactly the same thing mate lol
I think you need a cowling from any non airbag model, not sure what else is needed though.
I vaguely remember doing some searching and the indicator cancel tab needs modding (I may be wrong though, only going on memory!)

You need a different Boss as well, if it's 95 it will have the airbag boss afaik so the larger 3 spoke airbag steering wheel is a straight fit but the one in the picture is not.

        'aircon boss' ?

        Ohh - airbag boss

IIRC you can bolt up later style 3-spoke airbag wheel in place of old style (fugly) 4-spoke airbag wheel... and that Jamo is right - if the car has old 4-spoke airbah wheel then some changes are required to fit lovely non-airbag 3-spoke wheel pictured.

IMHO if you've got the 4 spoke thin rimmed Grandad airbag wheel on your car and want a better one, its worth buying the chunkier 3 spoke airbag wheel (some S2, RS2, early S4/S6). It'll just be a straight swap and you'll still have an airbag should the worst happen..

I think the 3 spoke airbag wheel look just as bad as the 4 spoke
            I have been toying with a B5 S4 3 spoke airbag wheel...

Thats harsh - I rather like the look of S2/RS2 3-spoke airbag wheel, but admittedly its not as pretty as the nonairbag wheel.

Thanks for the replies although nobody as yet knows exactly what is required to fit the wheel ?

I love that style 3 spoke so one way or the other its going on I just need to know what car to get the bits off and I'll get sourcing.

<goes to garage to see if boss is removable>

Ok so there is 4 allen key headed bolts which I'll presume remove the boss, is the boss off the 4 spoke not removable in the same way ? I cba to take mine off right now but I'll be doing a dash change next week so I wanted to get all of the smaller problems dealt with and nicely finished off with the 3 spoke wheel.

What part of a different boss is unclear?

So one for a Corsa will do then ? lol

You know what I'm getting at, what model or year car do I need to track the correct parts from ?

As I have no idea what car the steering wheel comes off and as far as I was aware all S2's had air bags I thought I'd ask for some hints in where to start looking being that its not a simple cut this move this affair.

To fit that wheel you need to remove the airbag stuff and use the non-airbag boss = 8A0 419 777 along with horn wire = 8A0 951 581

Had a productive day at the breakers today looking for parts for my other cars and found a Audi 80 hidden away in the corner and by luck it was a non air bag model so I now have all the parts I needed to fit the wheel so I'm happy again now !

All it needs is the dash changing and more importantly the clutch fitting !

                          Happy days

dash swap is easy, takes me around half hour to remove and an hour to fit back together, I did a write up a while ago.
