Rs2 Steering Rack Fitment To S2 Coupe

Got my RS2 Steering Rack on last week and the difference from Servtronic is awesome, i can actually feel the road now.

The only problem i am having at the moment is, when the lock is turned to the left, it is groaning slightly and i can see the hydraulic fluid pipe from the pump moving aswell, as if there is too much pressure or something and the fluid reservoir is getting a bit damp on top.

I fitted the restrictor valve union into the pump pipe to the front of the rack, could this valve be causing my problems now?? I dont suspect the pump as it was renewed less than two years ago.

Any help from you is appreciated in advance

yep, makes a big difference doesnt it Mines does the same, I never have worked out the cause but one of the seals with the big x-head top is weeping on mine so i presume an air leak on mine which would make it moan. I have tried to bleed it but nothing has worked.

What effect would it have on the RS2 Rack if the valves are removed from the hydraulic unions to the rack??

What is the actual purpose of the valves?? can they actually build up more pressure than needed?? as mine originally had a Servotronic rack which didnt have the valves in it.

Would too much pressure cause the top of my reservoir to get wet ?? or just too much fluid??

What i did get though, on turning the left lock the steering was groaning slightly as previously mentioned, but should the actual fluid pipe from the pump to rack be flexing?? as if there was too much pressure

      Thanks in advance

afaik pump bleeding & noise when locked might be caused by reductin valve in the rack.
Why have you decided to replace the rack? does RS2 rack has a different ratio? cause to avoid servo assistance you just might in plug the servotronic control unit under the rear seat.

Im asking cause i have a ridiculously long 3.5 turns from lock to lock rack and wonder how to make it shorter.

ABY / RS2 rack is 2.6 turns.... AFAIK the valves on the rack unions are non-return valves, weird that they are not specced on the ABY or AAH / ABC coupes but they are on the Avant / RS2 which all share the same rack... go figure
