    Anybody tried Meyle wheel bearings?

I found a few posts on Meyle bushes, top mounts & other items - they dont have a great reputation by the looks of it. .. Has anyone fitted their wheel bearings?

I'm aware OEM Audi are SKF but the local options I've found are as follows:

    - From Audi - wheel bearing kit including hub bolt & nuts $398 (Australian $) per side.

    - Bearings only direct from SKF $190/side and 4-5 weeks shipping (ex singapore) + say $40 for Bolts & nuts from Audi.

    - Melye kit including bolts & nuts locally stocked $120/side..

Just wondering if its too good to be true.

      Cheers,
Found a local Febi distributor who didn't have a Febi kit but did have a kit with FAG bearings .. almost definately chinese manufactured like the Meyle bearings but at $70 AU for the kit per side I'm going to give them a go... will wait for some SKF bearings next time if they dont last too long.

Well I picked them up this morning and the bearings are stamped 'Germany GOP BAHB633814A' which -if you google tha part number - comes up as an SKF part
Hopefully thay are the right ones... I'll measure them up tonight.
Amazing differences in price from different suppliers!

I have 4 front wheel bearings in the garage i got from SKF, why buy 2 when you can have 4 for twice the price. They have no SKF number on them but they are throught SKF.

Can you accurately measure the size of your bearings for me?
The ones I got are 82mm outside diameter, 37mm wide, and inside diameter 43mm one side and 45mm other side.
I found another thread where someone posted they had a 42mm inside diameter. I dont want find out I have the wrong ones after the hubs are out.

                    Hey mouse
I'm almost certain that size is the same as the fronts on my car and I think I read somewhere the wheels bearings are identical, which is why the hub conversion for 90q's is possible and relatively easy.

FAG bearings are pretty decent, I spoke to a guy at work that does highly accurate balancing for instruments (gyros and such) and he said they were the goods.
I've got FAG bearings in the fronts at the moment.

Also, I got the part/batch numbers off the old bearings which were SKF.
                    BAHB 633814 A
                    M3 J
                    And it's 82mm outside diameter.

Rears had an outside diameter of 75mm

Are you changing them youself? You'll need a decent press, I took mine up to 12 tonne to get them in and used a blow torch.

Ok thanks, that's the same part number as the ones I got - it was just the inside diameter I wasn't sure about.
Thinking about doing it myself as an excuse to get a torque wrench but I know if I did I'd have to find someone to press them out and in, so might not be worth it.

Those inside diameters sound about right. They where definitely different sized from one end to the other.

Torque wrench would need to be reasonably high ranging. IIRC I torqued my axle bolt to 200NM then another 90 or 180°. Basically until I couldn't possibly put any more force on it with a 600mm breaker bar.

You could always go and buy a press, I think it would be about $300 for a 12T press. About the same as a good torque wrench.Or do what I was going to do if it was any more than our press could handle, take the hub assembly out, then take the whole thing to a mechanic with a 20T press and get him to take the bearings out and put the new ones in, shouldn't cost much more than $50.

Make sure the guys do it properly or they'll wreck the new bearings...

fig 5 is wrong if do that way youll end up pushing the inner race out past the seal, you need to press against the inner race, as i do, i place the flange on the press deck and press against the inner race, that way can tell if your on centre of the bearing

we bought a press deciding that if do 5 wheel bearing its definably paid for ifs self. was a cheap one of ebay, 20T does anything ill ever have to throw at it
however i now have the odd 'friend' calling round wanting the use of it, maybe should start charging, its easy work
