H&R Springs, which way is up?

I'm in the middle of replacing the springs on the coupe and ran into a puzzler. I always fitted the H&R's springs so the writing is the correct way up.

Something didnt look right so i stuck my head under the avant as i fitted them a month ago and found they were the other way around.

Pic below i took years ago when i bought the first set for the coupe, they sent me avant ones by mistake so i took a few pics of them side by side.

As you can see the coupe and avant springs contradict each other, so the question is which way is the correct way to fit them

    Mark.

    ?

Isn't the finishing coil at each end slighting different?

They were on the spare fronts i've got...so the tighter coil should got to the top.

    Hth.

The base of the spring should sit flat, the top of the spring has a slight helix angle to it and sits in the top mount cup. HTH

Thats how i had the old set fitted, closer wound section to the top.

So i guess that means i put the avant ones in upside down, looks like i'm taking that one apart too

I had this on my coupe springs, the rears and the fronts fitted in different orientations to sit correctly with the flat coil lowermost and the helical coil uppermost! Very strange!
