    s2 avant wheel bearings

    Hello.

i need to change the rear wheel bearing, i have S2 avant rear hubs on my car, so 82mm. I have 2 new S2 front bearings left over, so i wonder if the front s2 bearings can be used for the rear s2 avant hubs? both are 82mm...

    any BTDT on this?

    The rears are 75mm

The RS2 is the only B4 with 82mm at all four corners.

Nuhh - that don't sound right... S2 Avant is definitely 82mm rear hub.

The Avant is 82mm all round as well, the S2 Coupe is the one with the small rear bearings

To be pedantic - on the B4 platforms it seems like ALL avants got the 82mm rear hub but also the ABY limo/sedan.

Whether this 82mmm bearing is same as up front - I cannot tell from parts system as front bearing calls up a kit number whereas rear is just raw bearing - you'd need a catalog from likes of SKF unless someone has both parts in hand to look at numbers on the bearing itself.

Got me wondering if the rear of Coupe could accept the 82mm bearing by using rear hub from ABY Sedan/Limo... If the rear B4 driveshafts are beefier than B3 then that might be worth looking into - no idea how simple or complex that would be. Sorry for off topic...

I wouldn't have thought so given that the wheel bearing housings are a completely different design to accommodate the double wishbone setup.

Surely a hole is just a hole ?

Also - the same 75mm rear hub from rear of S2 Coupe is used on rear of B4Q (5x112) - so the hub carriers cannot be *that* differnt.

LOL - this is all complete conjecture - would need to have all the bits in front of me to make any educated statements

Yes, a hole is just a hole. But not when one is 75mm and the other is 82mm.

There are two different bearing carriers availble for the B4Q, one for the 75mm bearing and one for the 82mm.
So I fail to see how you can fit an 82mm bearing into the 75mm bearing carrier of the S2 coupe.

The avant hubs differ from the coupe hubs too, although I'm not sure what that difference is.

Perhaps I am missing the point.

Yeah but if - I mean IF the Coupe hub carrier has enough material to allow it to be bored out to 82mm then we are on the way... just have the small problem of driveshafts left

the difference is in ABY/ 3B Coupe Rear Bearing !!

                      rear ABY 82mm bearing
                      rear 3B 75 mm

                      Front are all 82 mm
                      Avant, coupe 3b, aby

I got to change it on my avant coming back from hollidays and i changed one on a 3B 2 weeks ago and it s not available at SKF ! wrong code in their system, they give the 82 mm from the ABY for the 3B !

I got them from another suplyer, dont remember the name

And don t forget to tighthen the nut at the right torque + 90 °

                      Cheers

Plot thickens... looking at rear of UR - single piece rear strut unfort - there is a 75mm and 82mm option... No details on my system but I suspect the SPORTY special got the 82mm carrier, different hubs and shafts to match - tres exotic !

Rear of S2 Coupe is 75mm - 3B or ABY

Wheel bearings should be the same front and rear for 82mm applications. The front comes in a kit with the hub bolt etc hence the different part number. Having said that I'm sure when I fitted my 330mm brakes and we were doing the wheel bearings and new hubs the two I had which where front ones I had lying about didn't fit.

You can see what's included in most kit part numbers by clicking the kit part and selecting the blue button under addtional information at the bottom. This will bring up a list of the contents of the kit. I've attached an screenshot to illustrate what I mean.
