    lowering discussion

Hi all, would like to lower the avant but on a budget,

    spax, H&R, eibach, bilstein ? what s best combi springs-coil , would like a -30 mm kit

what s the advantage of coilover vs separate coil & springs ? as for price is double i think.

    Cheers

i want to do that to my rs2, but i dont like the idea of 30mm lowering. I already have bilstein shocks and S2 avant HR springs(springs not fitted yet) but i also had custom modified some OEM springs to 15mm lower only.Im going to try those on first, and then if not satisfied i will go for the S2 HR springs. I believe it is the best compromise however it may make the car unable to go over speed bumps or go on ferries without front bumper touching the ground

A set of springs and dampers are about the same cost as a set of KW V1s, £800 or so, so why not just get some coilovers and set the rideheight to stock or wahtever lowering you require?

because KW i think the highest you can get is -30mm or something and they are much stiffer than bilsteins to begin with.At least that is what a friend told me when he used them on his RS2 and went back to original shocks again

Might be worth speaking to KW direct?

is it possible to make OEM springs custom modified ??

what kind of mechanics can do that ? and can we still keep the standard shocks while lowering 15 mm ?

i had that i think on my beloved destroyed previous S2 and it was perfect, by the way on another S2 coupe with H&R -30 , it s ok for bumps, only think is when u ride on bad roads or in a hole in the road !! bang, shocks hit the bottom and ur wheels and tyres suffer much more.

Keep me in touch with your custom made suspension, could go for the same.

            Thanks

Oo got one does the RS2 ride lower than S2? I have RS2 front shocks on stock springs just wondering if I can lower and get away with it (if the RS2 rides lower that is)

RS2 springs are the same as S2 Avant aircon ones. The shocks are harder however

For lowering on a budget you cant beat H&R springs

How are you h&r boys with speed bumps? Mines on h&r/minis and I scrape my exhaust just behind the front wheels over pretty much every bump! It looks pretty though...

Mine only scrapes on really big speed bumps, but since swapping the cats and resitting everything its doing it even less now as it doesnt hang down as much

Don't go there, I'm going back to standard ride height. Birmingham is a nightmare

I should then have 2 sets of lowering springs to sell, well that's the plan!

what about koni inserts then? i was looking at uprating my dampners as they feel very soft and the car crashes a lot on bouncy b-roads. Im running H+R springs on standard S2 avant shocks.

The only ones i could find were on german ebay and were about £700 so makes me think why dont i just save a bit more and get some coilovers (H+R's or KW's)

there are a few shops in the UK that can heat modify the springs to make them lower. they work on race cars so i trust them
