Where to mount reservoir for front struts?

    Hi Guys

I am having custom made inserts done for the front struts for the S2. Does anyone have experience on where the best place is to install the external reservoir for the racing shocks.

I would appreciate any feedback and advice you can give.

Keep the right side one away from the exhaust!

I'd say it depends on how much access you want to them (either in situ or for ease of removal) for gassing them up or adjustment. I seem to remember seeing plenty located high on the bulkhead in supertourers. In an ideal world lower and further back for the purposes of weight distribution, but that exhaust location is definitely something I'd steer clear of.

I also kind of like symmetry and laying the pipes horizontally along the bulkhead and facing the reservoirs at each other does look tidy. Does your car have reversed intake? Just a consideration for the throttle body location.

Yep, the down pipe does cause a problem, on the left I can mount it quite well but the right is definitely a problem.

I am thinking of mounting them on the lower control arm, as the braided hose cant be too long as this effects the effeciency of the shocks.

I am considering changing to reverse mount IM at some stage

why have them down there? much easier to adjust them in the enginebay than remove the wheel/jack up the car every time..

I've worked on tarmac rally cars with the cannisters placed in the fronts of the arches with a protective kevlar casing. Dependant on hose length and how often you want to adjust them though.

If the cannister fits through strut top hole (which it should unless its huge), why not locate in the waterbox area under windscreen cowling? I know fusebox is in that area but would be cooler and safer in there.
