I ended up taking my suibframe out this afternoon while attemping to get the gearbox out. It isn't in the best of order I'm afraid, some quite heavy rust. I have it ground down with the angle grinder and wire cup wheel and painted in red oxide (as it is all I had in the garage except yacht varnish
). What I would be interested in knowing is would a tdi subframe be the same as I have one in a lot better order on my old TDI thats for spares at my parents house. I would sandblast, paint and renew all bushings and have it ready to fit.
Another problem is that one of the rear subframe bushes is shot and I mean there's about 3-4mm of play as the rubber has come away from the steel sleive. Car was MOT'd just over a month ago too
. Last time I tried to get these the local motor factor got me ones with only a 10mm bolt hole ( I beleive to fit an earlier car) and only other place I could get them was audi who took about a fortnight
. I dont want to fit the subframe with a dodgy bush but I really need the car mobile by this time tomorrow
. What's the opinions on alloy or poly bushings on these?
Cheers All.
