    5 Stud / S2 Driveline Conversion - 90q / coupe

What are the ways of doing this?

1.) Swap just the wheel carriers (are the hubs the same dims?) (then brake discs and upgrade fronts to 276 G60s or TT/986/968 etc.

Does this give smaller diameter driveshafts and lower gearing? What is the 90q driveline good for in terms of power, obviously S2 can handle 500bhp with reasonable reliability.

2.) Swap the hubs/uprights (wheel bearings), wheel carriers, driveshafts and diff output flanges off a coupe S2? This would retain the shorter gearing from the 90q but give stronger driveshafts (hardly required) and the larger wheelbearings for better reliability.

Swap the lot... 5 speed box, rear diff, prop(?), driveshafts & struts off a coupe S2?

Just interested, you can never do too much mental planning for dream projekts

I thikn for a track car OE gearing and 300bhp would be pretty lively.

Incidentally, what exactly is the difference? Tyres are a lot smaller for a start on the B3, 205/50R15 or 205/45R16 vs 225/45R17...

it the engine is a 2.3 20v, than you only need to change the hubs. is the engine is weaker, then you need to change the hubs with bearing housing, and at least the cv joints. if the engine is weaker than the flanges on the gearbox and diff are different to the s2 ones...

So are S2 driveshafts and 90q driveshafts the same length with the differences being the output flange on the diff (interchangeable) and the wheel bearing/hub/wheel carrier assy bearing diameter?

I guess I would want to take a B3 to 5 stud and some peace of mind that it could handle a homefried ABY for future fun.

I severely doubt that the driveshafts are the weakest part there but if it's as simple as bolting on S2 corners to get bigger brakes, beefier suspension and 5 stud hubs (I think original 3B 5 spokes on a B3 saloon would look ) then that's an interesting proposition for sure.

Just got excited about saloons recently so though I'd ask a few questions about the sort of mods I have lined up in my head. I was thining of swapping the IS for something hot and hatch based and then started to look at alternatives and realised that I want a 90q 20v because I've liked them for a while. Ideally I'd finish up with a 300bhp, 1250kg 90q track car but that's just silly and out of reach at the mo. Of course, if I had a daily car with a few mods here and there that just happened to allow for that in the future (as with making the alpinweiss GT3071 proof as I go along) then all good.

Just at the thinking phase at the mo. Money, having a car to sell and still not being up to doing the work myself are all large obstacles but then it's nice to get excited once in a while

If the car is a 90 20v than it should already have the Girling 60 brakes stock (same as the S2). It also has the 82mm bearings, so you "only" need the hubs.

plus keeping the 7a box will be better for sprints and off the mark power.

tbh its a quick and easy conversion if you can get a donor for the engine loom etc.

If you're lucky and find a car for around 2-400 with engine problems. Spend another 1k on everything for the engine side and another 5-700 on hubs and brakes your nearly sorted.

Cool. Sounds like a winner there. Will have to mull it all over, sure there will be other things to think about too!

The car has to be specifically with 7a engine. Mine has NM engine, so it had small front bearings, 256 front brakes etc. I am not 100% sure if the 7a 90q has the same driveshaft flanges than S2. My 90q has AKU-gearbox, and it has small flanges. I am in the understanding that 7a 90q has AKU too. It does not matter though, because 7a has "big" outer CV joints, so a direct fit to S2 hubs.

I needed hubs, front driveshafts and gearbox from an S2 to complete my conversion to NM engined 90q.

gearbox from s2 and audi 90 have the same ratio, (4,111) and the inner flanges you may change to a bigger one..the last ome are done in 2 minutes..
