been thinking about doing something with the quattro-
remebered how much body roll it had last time out
h n r springs on front, standard on rear
standard shocks
standard anti roll bar front
thought about fittin one on rear which i ve made up
If you have H&R springs and kept the dampers they will be completely unable to control the car properly. The standard ones were pretty mediocre from new. Get some Koni adjustables on set one full turn towards firm and feel the difference.
Rear roll bar a good mod and reduces understeer. I used a 20mm front ARB from an early GT coupe.
I have a magazine article from 1997 when I fitted mine if you're interested.
Yes, dampers are what you need!
Although you would be better with Bilstein sport ones rather than Koni or you won't notice any differance at all.
Have Billies on my UR, transformed it when I changed from Koni (two sets I tried, both new).

From what I remember Iwas told, Bilstein Sport dampers are the best but very difficult to get hold of. Do not confuse these with Bilstein Sportsline which used to be available at ECP. They are completely different.
Had Koni's on my 90 when it was TSR 2.6 N/A and they were very good indeed.
Hope this helps.

Some S2 coupe springs should fit and would give a reasonable increase in rate. Get 2 sets of rears to make allowance for the lighter front (with ride height anyway).

Having tried several makes over the 18years owning mine, the ADJUSTABLE Konis make a massive difference and much more reliable and give more consistent performance than the likes of Boge, Spax, Monroe offerings. Not tried more expensive Bilstein though never had issues with Koni / H&R combo, so stuck with them.

Did you compare between new Boge and new Konis? on knackered Boge and new Konis?
Having onwned my UR for 16 years and tried more than one make, my opinion the Billies are another league!
I still have the 20V ur oe springs on, no need for anything stiffer! and I like them stiff!

Boge were 18months old, seemed to be set for more resistance in compression than rebound and started leaking and not adjustable, being able to adjust the damping to match the spring is pretty much essential to enable accurate matching of the damping to the spring.
I'll not go into you liking them stiff?!!!
My Spax Kit was OK but springs were not ideal as car did not look level and damping effect not enough and non adjustable (dare say adjustable version might be available now).
Options for the series 2 cq are pretty limited these days, not sure what is still available, heard H&R springs no longer made for the car now either....
Bilsteins are likely the best dampers if available and you can afford them..

its currently fitted with spax adjustables on the front at hardest setting, they were 2nd hand so may be weak.
i think i ll go for nillies as had them on a gt before, if i can fins any
will fit rear roll bar and change the front one for a smaller one-Tim Copper told me years ago that works ur s didn t run a front bar at all
have an alloy strut brace to fit up front too, 4 others STILL being made, the guy takes on too many jobs, but they do look good
anyone know where i can get new standard springs then, threw the old ones away when fitted the h n r ones! Doh!
