    PAS Pump Nightmare!

Right......... first off before i go on a rant, a BIG thank you to S2Central for the quick run through on here about stripping out the pas pump on a ABY. Thanks again!!
(ps for anyone local i can now remove these blindfolded and under 60 secs!)

Right....... when i got my S2, bout 9 months ago, i didnt realise that it shouldnt have had red, atf, fluid in the PAS system. It deveolped a rattly grindy noise a little while ago that i couldnt pin point. While Knightriders4 was doing the timing bely he checked this out and pump goosed.

So sourced a recon unit from ECP. Based on OEM recons so sounded ok.
Go to fit it today, old pump stripped out, sytem flushed with green gold, rebuilt with new seals and new pump. At this point ill point out that when i took the seals out of the new pump, it was filled with red fluid! So i flushed it out with green......

fired up and WOOSHHHHHH, pas fluid everywhere, spraying all over the place!!!!
Jesus, firstly thought, must be me, forgot to tighten a hp hose or summit.
so.......stripped down and out again. Checked everyhting and cleaned up pump. (wings and bumperalso covered in fluid!!!)

Built back up and fired up, WOOOOSSSSSSS, god damn it! quickly checked with torch and found two seal leaking, one pissing out na other spraying mist.

Stripped down and out with pump again, removed these two seals and the onternal o rings have become brittle and perished. So old pump back in so i can move her!!!

So im off to ECP to go mental!!!!!! their recon folk have used redfluid and killed the seals and possibly wreked the internals???

So...m guessing this will be their standard procedure and i wont be ablr to get one with green fluid or without any. so where is the best place to get one???

Right, beer and breathe......................nope, still raging!

It does sound as though whoever ECPs supplier for the recon unit hadn't done a good job but I doubt the red fluid had caused any problems with the seals.

As for the rattly noise, mine's being doing it for 100,000 miles especially when it's cold and is still working.

If you have no joy with ECP the PAS pump is pretty easy to strip down - see if you can reuse the seals from the old pump
You might find the seals are not seated properly or even the casing bolts are not tight.

Failing that the rattle in the old pump is probably casued by too much end float on the main shaft - can be cured with a suitably sized washer
