    Another economic strut-mount option...

    for the B3 chassis that has proved very low cost yet effective for several years now (I used to break them monthly) is as follows:

    Front: Pro-Mounts with Mount-Saver 1's;
    Rear: Boge OEM mounts with Mount-Saver 1's.

    These last, I expect forever (and are guaranteed to).

      Interestingly enough, when I was designing the Pro-Mounts 6-7 years ago I did some testing on all of the then-current OEM, generic and Chinese strut mounts to find the one that offered the strongest design and could stand up to being compression-cycled at both normal and dramatically higher-than-normal pressures.

      The Meyle HD at the time, simply put, was hands-down the ABSOLUTE worst of the lot. I couldn't get it fixtured before it would snap/collapse even before cycling it. It was the ONLY strut mount that would collapse repeatedly before I could even begin compression cycling! The "non-HD" Meyle strut mount literally wiped the floor with the HD version as that relates to the abuse it could take and longevity.

      To make a long story short the Sachs/Boge "real-deal" Audi strut mounts killed every other strut mount from Lemforder, Continental, Febi-Bilstein, Meyle, Corteco and a handful of other "no-name" strut mounts and thats why I've used nothing but Sachs/Boge in my Pro-Mounts since day one! Hey, if I am standing behind them for life there's no way I'm going to install ANY inferior component!

      The Meyle HD was brand new at the time and everyone held high hopes for it but those that actually installed them in their cars quickly found the same issues I discovered in testing... incredibly short life... sometimes only a few days. I remember being a little gape-jawed and chuckling about the Meyle HD series fragility when I discovered the ONLY "HD" strut mount I was testing was actually the weakest/shortest-lived of the lot! Even gettin its butt whooped by its little brother, ie; the non-HD Meyle strut mount.

      In fairness I would be remiss here if I didn't mention that was several years ago and "maybe" Meyle has gone thru a re-design of the HD series strut mounts. And without another test I have no way of knowing the quality of anything they make today. But if the pic above is of the current Meyle HD offering I gotta say it looks IDENTICAL in EVERY respect to the ones I tested. Of course I don't have x-ray vision but if I was shopping strut mounts today I'd steer FAR clear of that little gem!

      I even wrote about the strut mount testing and specifically how surprised I was at the Meyle HD being SO weak it couldn't even be cycled like all others while testing over at the AW 80/90 forums.

          yes/yes but they ONLY work with *new* Sachs/Boge real-deal Audi mounts and should NEVER be installed in ANY other manufacturer's strut mount or in ANY Sachs/Boge mounts if they have even 2-3 miles on them.

            Are they sold as pairs? If so how much per pair?

            Also how much for pro mounts?

            Thanks

              Mount-SaverII's run $45 per pair in street version. Pro-Mounts run $215 per pair and have Mount-SaverII's pre-installed in them. Pro-Mounts can be ordered with "race" version Mount-Saver II's for an additional$40 but "race" Mount-SaversII's cannot be used in a car without Pro-Mounts! They can ONLY be used in Pro-Mounts due to the HUGE F1 spec teflon-lined spherical bearing in Pro-Mounts and can break the tops off struts if used in an OEM, generic, aftermarket or chinese strut-mount with the OEM-style thrust bearings.

                Also interested in pricing and how to source promounts?

                I got a set years ago through you know who :corey: And they have out lived all the other mounts i have tried. I dont rate the compbrake alloy jobbies at all, too harsh and the spherical ball wore out within a couple of years. More cost effective to use standard mounts and change them every six months.
