never seen it done - would be a huge amount of custom work but not doubt improve the handling no end.

I think it would be wiser to make tube frame chassis and to put Audi Coupe silhouette on top of it instead of making custom work on old chassis....

I have a tubular spaceframe for sale with a lot of parts.
        If in doubt, Flat out.

but your frame is for McPherson, so redoing it to double wishbone you have to cut it and weld again so better to make new one...

I have looked at the idé to make double wishbone suspension. And i belive that it is possible to make it without cutting up the entire frame. All you need to build are mounts for the upper a arm and the coil over. That is less work then building a whole new frame.
            If in doubt, Flat out.

Could adapt the S4 front suspension, I had a dream of doing this but it's a lot of money for small reward on an Avant

Undoubtedly if optimised a double wishbone would be advantageous in certain areas, most notable of all being camber recovery in roll, which you can't really achieve a lot of in a Macpherson setup.

Having said that, there's not a lot of room to play with (and that of course is partly why Macpherson is so widely utilised in the production automotive industry, along with the simplicity and cost savings associated)

...and with less room to play with you could find that the geometry is compromised in another way

(eg too much camber change under braking if you've got a fairly compliant setup, as you do on a road car - there's one thing that Macpherson doesn't actually suffer from!)

I'm with the concensus that, unless you're really intent on doing a lot of work on the car anyway, it's probably too much effort for not much gain.

yeah we had really two ways to do this,

we could tube and build the entire front end /frame

or we can shorten the with of a b5 s4 subframe and cut the upper towers out of the b5 and graf them into the cq frame

B5's are not a-arm in the front.

yes not a arm, but still a way better multilink than the oe setup
